I've been trying to take more pics around the house at different times of the day and with no flash to try to avoid dust orbs. So I was taking pics yesterday and on the display I could see little pinhole sized spots appearing here and there. Usually in a different spot. The pinholes are a red dot and showed up on the wall (plaster) on paneling above the fireplace (in 3 different spots), on the brick around the fireplace and on the curtain. I've seen this before, but never looked more into it.

Since that's all I was getting I took a pic with flash. It had an orb up near the picture on the wall of my daughter. So I took the same shot again without flash and the red pinhole appeared where the orb was at with the flash. There is nothing on the wall there, and there wasn't anything in the room casting a red light. I even checked the wall and there is nothing there that would cause anything to appear. With the brick, paneling and curtain I also checked and there is nothing there that is different where the dots appeared.
I cropped the 2 images taken right after each other with orb and without. I lightened the one with no flash becuase it was darker, but I still have the original. Just wonder if anyone has noticed anything similar or has any explination as to what else it could be.

Now that I've had more time to look at it and other pics I think it's a problm with the camera. Why it only shows up sometimes I don't know. But when looking at them they were all at the same cross section on the pics, sometimes red looking and sometimes white. Why they show up on some pics and not othres is odd though. And now I wonder if whatever problem that caused the red dot to appear also caused the orb shape to appear when the flash was on.
I'm annoyed that it's the camera though because I just can't replace it right now. It's a 3 year old Kodak DC215 Zoom. But now I know if I see anything in that area of the camera that it probably is being caused by the camera.

Hmm, well I guess that's what happens when you use a free account. You should probably be able to see it again tomorrow. Sorry.

I've tried for 3 days now. Does your ISP provide you with any web space you can upload the pic to? Or email it to Kell and she can find a place to host it...

I saw it!! I Saw It !!! I waited up until after Midnight this morning and there it was... a lil red dot about the size of a laser pointer dot in exact same place where the orb was. I agree on the server issue that is a pain ... Try yahoo.com and their photo Albums .. I have never ran into a usage limit with them.

AHA! I finally got to see the pic! There must be less traffic on the site on weekends or something. Anyway, the left hand shot looks like a classic orb. Whether it's dust or a camera malfunction, I can't tell. But the one on the right looks like a bad pixel. Think you can post some more pics with the red dot? Do they appear in the same position in the picture itself (not the object being photographed, but that particular pixel location)? If it's always in that spot in the photo, then it's a camera problem.

As for it appearing only sometimes, it could be a sporadic camera problem, or if it's generating jpegs, it could be getting lost in the image compression in some cases.

I agree with Kevin... the pinhole/dot is pixelization caused by the camera or compression. The other may be a dust orb. Although odd that they occur in the same place in the pictures, I don't think they're related.

Hi Remo.... yep, the red spot is a pixelization thingee with your cam. I had the same thing in a few of the pics I took at Gettysburg with my digital cam. It showed up in approximately the same spot in each photo that it was in. Here's an example, from one of my pics I cropped and enlarged the red spot:

And thank you Kevin, now I know why it was only in a few pics, and hasn't happened since. I was wondering about that. =)

Bummer! I was hoping it would turn out to be a red eye from he--double hockey sticks or something....oh well. Now you know what it really is and how to keep it from happening so that the next time you post pics.....maybe you really WILL catch a red eye from....... [Confused] [Eek Smile]

Good luck and happy picture taking [Cool]

Remo, I've had the very same thing happen with my camera at times. I was never sure exactly what it was, but always assumed that it had something to do with the actual camera. Now thanks to Kevin, I know that it indeed is the camera and not red eyes from... [Wink] Although, when I have gotten the pinholes in pictures they are usually green...so I guess that would make them green eyes from... [Wink]
