This was pretty exciting! I had seen shadow ghosts out of the corner of my eye on several occasions -- mostly in other houses we had lived in. However, today, I was sitting in the kitchen in my rocking chair, eating a bite for lunch. I saw something about 4 inches tall, scurry across the floor about 8 feet in front of me. This was not out of the corner of my eye, this was much different from a "floater", there was no way this was a mouse or any other type of nasty little critter. This was a small blob, not entirely transparent, but not entirely solid either. I was just excited that I definitely saw something!! WooHoo!

Wow, cool! So small though! Makes you wonder it was an animal ghostie or something. Can you describe what it looked like? Too bad you didn't have your camera with you.

wow that was cool! I saw a shadow ghost once too- but it was sorta different.

out at the beach one night having my cards read by a very odd lady there was a sudden a sharp motion of a black shadow form that flew up and through the corner of the room- the lights were on in the room too. it was bat-like but much bigger. scared the bejeezus out of her and i just sat there and went "whoah". I dont know what it was - it was like a shadow but it had substance-couldnt see through it. vilano beach is a weird beach anyway and I was a the womens's separatist community which has really weird vibes and not cuz they are separatists. anyway- that's what I saw. a bat shadow critter!!!!

Cool! I may have one floating around here, but I'm not positive because it's all in the corner of my eye and I've been seeing stuff like that my entire life regardless of where I am. There was one time when I was younger I was watching TV with my grandpa and I saw something that looked very much like a cat run underneath the coffee table. I asked him when he got a cat, and he said he doesn't have a cat because he doesn't like them. But I think I'm going to have to start walking around with my camera glued to my hand. [Wink]

Kevin, the size of it surprised me also. It was small and roundish, but pretty much just a gray blob; no definite shape or form. My first thought was a rat or small kitten.
I was just amazed because I was looking straight at it, and even blinked and it was still there. It didn't seem in a hurry, it just glided from the bookcase into the wall.
Great stories guys! That bat thing would have given me the heebie jeebies!

Cool, Carrie! That's interesting that it took it's time like that.... and it was quite close to you! When I think about it, shadow ghosts often appear as dark, roundish blobs in photos, so maybe that is supposed to be their form. [Confused] Was it easy to see? What color is your carpet? Just curious!

I had a strange thing happen the other night, something like Sundog's experience, but not as spectacular. I was watching TV when from above, a black, jaggedy-looking 'thing' flitted into my field of vision (above my eyes). It left just as quickly. At first I thought.... fly? But it wasn't. It was solid black and bigger than a fly. I also checked the room (we all did!) and saw no insects, flying or otherwise.

Kell, it was easy to see. It happened in my kitchen, so it was on my linoleum, which is a light gray. The little blob was gray also, but considerably darker.
That is interesting about the flying thing! I wonder if these shadow ghosts are indeed some sort of animal spirits? My first thought after reading Sundog's story was of a large bird.

i had an experience like that also in the early nineties. me and my friend were sitting on my bed playing gin rummy [sp?] when all of a sudden a small shadow like creature moved across the bed right before our eyes [Eek!] it was about 1 inch long maybe 1 1/2 inchs most, it was also a dark grey and the width of a pencil. what was cool is that it took its time, moving purposly, but not quickly. now ive always believed in faerie folk and other spirits and creatures we cant normally see, but the friend i was with was a atheist!! we both watched it move across the bed, and i was telling my friend "see, see, i told you they exist" he was speechless. the creature was kinda transparent, and it was on top of my sheets, they were light colored. im just grateful that someone else saw it, especially my friend.

Reading this post reminded me of something... The house across the street from mine... A neighbor of mine used to tell me that she would see a dark shadowy form float across the hall, when she was sitting in her den late at night. She would get up and check to see if any cars were rounding the corner and looked for all kinds of explanations for it, and never found one. It always went in the same direction, from the left side of the hall, to the right. About 7 years ago, she moved, and a friend of mine bought and moved in the house. While talking on the phone with her one night, she said the same thing, that she caught a glimpse of a dark shadowy figure floating across the hall. I hadn't even thought of the incident and she had no knowledge of what had happened to the previous owner. Since then, she has had quite a number of things happen, including seeing this "shadow" on a regular basis, but always out of the corner of her eye when least expecting it. I've seen those type things too, off and on in my life. And my son, when was younger used to say he saw "shadows move" and he was genuinely afraid. The one my neighbor saw, and my friend sees, is described as a shadow with an almost human form to it. She said its like it is repeating the same task over and over each day and she never sees it go back across the hall...it always moves in the same direction.

Savannah, the fact that it does the same thing night after night would indicate that it's an imprint rather than an actual spirit. Sometimes, in the event of a sudden death or other event that often leads to a haunting, will cause the event to be "recorded" somehow in the environment, and that "recording" is played back, over and over.

As for the other "shadow ghosts" mentioned in the thread, some of those could be imprints as well, it's hard to say. If it repeats, and/or doesn't seem to interact with the environment or respond to you, it's probably an imprint.

Carrie that is so cool! My first thought too was that it was the spirit of some kind of animal. I just think it's so neat that it took it's time and didn't seem to be in any kind of hurry.

I have had a couple experiences with seeing Shadow ghosts but it's always been out of the corner of my eye and it's always happened very quickly. Just enough to make you do a double take. Actually, up until I joined this board I had thought that it might just be my imagination. Reading other people's posts here made me realize that there was really something to it.

I have to agree with Kevin. Savannah, it sounds like it's most likely an imprint. Although, you had said that your friend has had other experiences as well. Two ghosties possibly?

My father passed away in 2001 of a sudden heart attack. He was only 65. Some necessary background to my "shadow ghost" story... Dad did all the laundry. Even when his health became somewhat frail due to many years as a smoker, Mom and I were not permitted to help him with it because we "didn't do it right" -- even though I have been washing my own clothes since I was 12 and my Mom was the one who taught him! Clothes were transported from my house to his (until I finally got my own washer and dryer) in large 33 gal containers that we referred to as "caskets" because they are large enough to conceal a body in.

After Dad's death I spent much time catching up the laundry. On several occasions as I was sitting out in the carport waiting for the load to finish, I would see a shadow pass from the dryer towards the washer. Dad was still doing laundry! My (then) 15 year old son said "Mom, I don't think that is really Grandpa. I think he just did laundry so much that he left an echo."

My father was very particular about how clean clothes were packed into the casket for us to take home. It used to irritate him no end when we would rummage through it looking for clean clothes to take home before the casket was completely filled to his satisfaction. He would accuse us of "stirring it up with a stick". One evening after his passing, we were going through the casket looking for clean clothes for the next day when a black orb appeared between me and Rob (DragonFX). It was about the size of a softball and looked like a shadow cast by an orb that we couldn't see. It tickled me that Dad was still upset at us stirring up the casket even though he was no longer responsible for the laundry. I assured him that we were putting everything back in the proper order.

A shadow Ghost. I always wondered what those things were that I would see out of the corner of my eye, or like someone was walking by or behind me. I have actually turned around to speak, thinking it was someone in the house or office approahing me to ask a question, and there was no one there. Now I know.
