Hmmm, that's interesting. Either that, Ghostdancer, or a conspiracy to sell books? I saw a PBS special once where they questioned the involvement of the CIA, but the poor guy they interviewed...Well, he didn't seem to have much clue, I think he was just happy to make it out alive. He did say that they tried to kill him...I seem to recall he played dead, then ran off into the jungle. It's a good question that seems to be backed up by some facts...Since when hasn't the CIA been involved in some shady s**t. I think that we'll never really know. Even if official documents pop into view a nieghsayer will discredit them as fakes. Part of the problem I think with conspiracy theories is that some of the folks backing them take it a little too far, thereby discrediting themselves. It's a shame. I'm curious to read other replies...Either way, definetly some entertainment value to the topic!

Seductive Poison by Debbie Layton who was one of Jim Jone's aides is a very good book on Jim Jones and his followers. Nothing in it about CIA involvement though.

One can NEVER be certain what the government is realkly up to. Ther has been far too many "cover ups" : area 51 comes to mind.As for the government stepping to prevent such horrid-ness, I can't help but think back to 9-11. We've been hearing little bits and pieces of news that the government KNEW something would happen, when it would happen and what had actually been targeted yet did little, if anything at all, to prevent it from happening. I take heed to some of the so-called "conspiracy theroies" although not like the character Mel Gibson played where he was a taxi driver certain that all of the uncle same branches of government were out to poison the minds of the common people...in that movie it turned out that he'd been messed around with by the character that "captain Picard" ( can't think of the actors name ) played and his ( Mel's) fears were justfied. I believe that the government is NOT my "best friend" and does NOT have my bet intentions in mind.... I feel that we have much to fear from men in such high places of power and the ones who really really scare the HE** out of are the ones who claim to be guided by the bible and the spirit of God ( Bush comes to mind)....those people are the ones we really need to watch out for
