It was the fifth day of a long distance recon patrol deep in the jungle of Panama. I was on point, and in the morning I lifted up a big palm leaf and was about a foot away from a black panther with the goldest eyes I have ever seen. We just stared at each other for a very long time. It seemed like days. The panther knew I was a cat person, so that was a good thing; because in an instant the cat disappeared without a trace into the jungle.
That night I had watch after the team leader halted us for the night. After I woke my buddy at zerodarkthirty, I layed on the jungle floor to try to get some sleep. I woke up to a bug's stinger deep in my cheek. I could not move, a paralysis had set in from the venom. When the leader wanted to start the patrol, I was unresponsive but aware of everything. I heard the other Marines talking about me: no pulse but breathing. The leader started an IV, and the other Marines wrapped me in a pancho and liner. He called in a medivac. And they lifted me out of the jungle by the copter. I saw the light, and various spiritual beings during that ride of a lifetime. I came back three days later in a hospital. I dont doubt anything now.
