My heart goes out to all those that were close to her. I was SO hoping that she would be found safe and sound. I just keep thinking about how scared she must have been as he was leading her away. [Cry]

It sounds like they have the guy that they think abducted her. I hope he gets what he deserves...and to think....he has 3 daughters of his own. Makes you wonder how he could even think of doing something like this. Really makes you think.

I was so hoping for a better ending to this one. Maybe that she would show up again, like Elizabeth Smart... but sadly, that's a rare occurrence. My question is when is society going to stop letting repeat offenders out on the street?? If he had been in jail where he belonged, Carlie would still be alive. Speaking of repeat offenders... Do yall remember the kidnapping of Stephen Stayner? They made a tv movie about it called, I Know My Name Is Stephen. Kenneth Parnell kidnapped him, changed his name, held him for 7 years. Stephen managed to escape after Parnell took another 5-yr-old boy. Well, anyway, that sorry SOB, is 72 years old now, and just got arrested again for trying to get a woman to bring him a 4-yr-old boy! He requested the boy be black, speak english and have a "clean" bottom. The woman cooperated with police and they busted the pervert. Just goes to show that pedophiles, like leopards, do not change their spots. I say hang 'em all!! It just infuriates me.
** And another note: Stephen Stayner died in a motorcycle accident in 1989. His brother is Cary Stayner, the guy who murdered 4 women at Yosemite National Park in 1999. (He got the death penalty.) Makes ya wonder, if the kidnapping of his brother effected him in some weird way? Or even makes ya wonder, if Parnell shoulda kidnapped Cary instead of Stephen. The world might have been rid of a pervert, Stephen may still be alive, and Cary... well, would probably be sittin on death row, but for killing Kenneth Parnell... and the 4 women he murdered in Yosemite would still be alive. Life is strange, isn't it? [Sigh]

OMG Savannah! That's so messed up!
Poor Carlie. It was really tough to see her so full of life 1 min. on tape... Makes me wonder if she was ever taught to do anything not to be taken to a 2nd crime scene... Maybe self defense & awareness should be taught more.
So awful to see these young lives wasted. [Cry]

I just wanted to echo that thought Hallowseve. It's sad that we should have to teach our children to protect themselves but when these sick b@$t@rd$ keep doing stuff like this there really is no option.
Had she been taught to punch him where it hurts the most she might have gotten away or at least created a ruckus and drawn other adults to her.

It breaks your heart. To see a child hurt and to know that someone can hurt a child.

I have to agree with you both Hallow and Nakis. I was thinking about that yesterday actually. It is ashame that we have to teach our kids to protect themselves.

On one hand, you don't want to make them so paranoid that they are afraid to go anywhere or are weary of every person they come across. But on the other hand, you want them to be prepared to defend themselves and to know when a situation just doesn't feel right.

You know, another thing to think about is this. I've been to a couple of self defense classes, and all the instructors say the same thing. The first thing most people do when under attack is freeze. They know what to do to defend themselves but they are just frozen from fear.

I'm wondering if maybe that's what happened with Carlie. =(

On a local radio station down here ... it was mentioned that the guy knew Carlie and her family that he had lived next to them for several years. Which might explain why she went with him so peacefully... this day and age you just don't really know your neighbors. Trust in your fellow man is dwindling fast... the days of Leave It To Beaver and Andy Griffith Show are long gone.... but how I long for them to return.
