Ghostdancer, we've had numerous posts about ouija boards and some of the downright bizarre things that have happened to people. You might want to check the paranormal section archives for more on this topic.

I'll share my story: When I was about 14, some other girls and myself thought it would be fun to use a ouija board. We had been asking it the typical teenage questions of "what boy likes me," etc... After a while, the atmosphere in the room began to change and the planchette(?) swirled chaotically. I believe I entered some sort of trance, and the next thing I knew the girls across from me were looking at me and screaming their heads off. They claimed to see a girl that looked just like me, but in the clothing of the 1800's. Her hair was parted in the middle, and she wore a bonnet with a high neck dress in the style of the mid 1800's. This apparition was seen behind me, the girls both agreed she looked enough like me to have been my double.

I am still in contact with one of these women, now in her mid-thirties. She doesn't like to talk about the incident, but her story has remained the same for 20 years. Neither of us ever played with a ouija board after that day.

I've heard other odd stories from very reliable people. These things are marketed as toys for kids, but they are anything but! Someone on this board compared the ouija board with leaving the door to your home open for anyone to come in. Chances are, you may get someone you wished you hadn't. If nothing happened to you and your sister, count yourselves as lucky!

By the sound of the title I thought you were looking for uses for a OUIJA board.

#1 Wood chipper feed.

#2 Something to top your list of things never to play with.

Kidding aside. A OUIJA board is not something to play with. It's a device that channels you psychic ability to contact spirits. What spirits? You don't know. The best analogy I've heard for using a OUIJA board is leaving your front door unlocked and open for anyone just to waltz in.
When you use one you take a big chance of inviting something very ugly into your life. Generally it's not worth the pain and suffering it can bring into your life.
But then pain and suffering is part of the learning process.

My sister's ouija board is still in her old closet at my parents house. I've looked at it from time to time, but have never tried to use it for anything.

She and some of her friends used it for fun as well, but nothing unusual.

Nakis [Laughing] Wood chipper feeder!! That would be a good use for a Ouija board!

I've used a Ouija twice. The first time was with a friend, nothing too unusual happened. The second time was with my brother and nephew at my brother's house. That time it was really weird. Whomever we contacted on the board said that they were my other brother who had passed away.

The thing is, I didn't feel like I was moving the planchette...my fingers were barely touching it....but my brother (who's wife was pregnant at the time) asked if the baby was going to be a boy or a girl. I was the only one that believed that she was having a girl (it turned out to be a boy) but when asked, the planchette spelled out girl. So part of me thinks that I was subconsciously moving it.

That was the last time that I used the Ouija though. Freaked me out too much. They are definitely nothing to just toy around with.

I've used one a few times, but also had nothing happen. A friend and I took one and tried to use it in my car at this place that was supposedly haunted and people used for their satanic rituals. But we didn't try for long becuase some really freaky looking guy came walking towards us on the dirt road and we had no desire to get closer to him, so we left. Most likely he was just homeless living in the woods, but he didn't look very happy, so we left.
The other time I used one was when I was in the Marine Corps, one of my roommates had one and a few of us used it. Only silly questions were asked and we didn't use it for long. So we might not have contacted anything at all. It ended up getting left in the room though and when I moved out I ended up with it in my home, had it for a few years and finally tossed it. My husband wanted nothing to do with it though.
I've heard of some people saying that the intent that is used with them is kind of what you get. If you are looking to be scared then you might get something negative that will scare you. But if you are using a spirit/angel board (same thing, differnet name) then your intentions are more likely to contact something good because that is what you are seeking.

Only use I ever got out of an Ouija Board was as a means to get a royal cussing from my mom when my cousin and I tried to bring one into the house.

My sister had gotten it for Christmas several years prior, and for whatever reason it was put out in the outbuilding. We found it and was going to try it out that night - we had no idea what it was for or anything - and she said there was no way in 'that hot place' we were bringing that thing in the house. We asked why, and amidst all the swear words we made out "evil" and something about the "devil", so we decided not to mess with it anymore.

Don't really know anyone that's ever messed with an Ouija Board, although my sister claims that she and some friends tried it one night at the friend's house. But knowing them, it's hard to tell what else they were trying that night...

I'd hate to drag in some evil spirits or anything but if there was a way to do it and a way to know it was true, I wouldn't mind contacting my friend that died in a car wreck several years ago... But I ain't taking any chances!

I simply do not understand why these things are still being sold in stores - as toys no less?
Toys they are not. I believe loved ones on the other side do not need devices like this to make contact, for they can visit us in our dreams. The less than desirable spirits out there look for portals that have been opened as an invitation to come on in.
We had a board when we were kids but never really knew what we were doing or what this thing really could be used for (thank goodness) -we just pranked each other the couple of times we tried it. It went into the garbage after sitting in the closet unused for months.

Several years ago a friend of mine had a board made by an elder that he was being mentored by. I wanted to learn more about the spirit that was in our (previous) home. The board had many protective symbols painted on it. We did obtain some information that was later verified by visiting the city archives. However soon after the little white orbs and flashes that appeared around the house from time to time were joined by red ones. I believe we invited more than we inteded into the home. Strange and unsettling things started to happen in the home and our resident ghost became much more active. We no longer felt as comfortable as we had before and we all seemed to feel unwell more often. We moved a few months later. Even with the protective symbols and protective prayers and such said it was not enough.
Don't use this board, those you least desire are sitting on your doorstep waiting for an invitation in. Nakis - sending it to a wood chipper is a great idea.

It seems that if you think it's just a toy and have no belief in it as anything else, that is all it is. However, if you really try to contact something, that is exactly what it will do. I think the board itself is irrelevant, it is just that, a piece of carboard. It's the concentration and intent of inviting something into your home that leads to problems. Can't really think of anything good that can possibly happen messing with them.

Remo, Have you ever thought using the ouija board at the same time this stranger appeared walking down the dirt road was something you might have pulled "something" up? That seems too weird of a coincedence that it happened at the same time, especially how frightened you were. I would have been, too. For myself, I have used it a couple of times when I was little, not really knowing the power it holds. No way will I ever touch or even be around one. Cat, when you moved, did any spirits follow you?

Carol we do have spirits/ghosts in this home but I am not sure if they followed us here or were here all along. I believe that when you are open to things such as this and because spirits/ghosts are everywhere that it is likely you will continue to have encounters where ever you go, even if it is only once in awhile. We have been startled from time to time but do not have that some creepy feeling that we started to encounter in the previous home. So far the little flicks of light (I call them baby orbs) that we have seen have been white. If they were red then I would definitely think we were followed.

Hi ya....

Hope you don't mind my 2 cents. When I was a kid I found a Ouija board in the front hall closet. I'm not sure exactly whose board it was, as no one in my family admitted to buying it. But it was a thin wood board with a high varish shine.

My friends and I tried it out a couple of times and for the first little while we got answers to our questions. Then we started feeling a little creepy and put it away.

Shortly after that my mom saw a program on Ouija boards and possession and she quickly turned it into kindling and burnt it in the fireplace.

I have to agree -- it's not something to toy with - you just don't know who or what is coming through.
