For you experts on this topic out there, please bear with me if this question sound stupid....

I have always wondered, Can you develop psychic powers over time, or is it just something you were born with?

Also, say someone was born with such power, but didn't know or realize they had it, or it just lay dormant. How would said person discover it, or develop it, if that is even possible? [Confused] [Confused] [Confused]

Hi ya 45!

I believe that everyone has the ability at least to some degree. Keep in mind you have to be willing to accept the "messages" as messages, and not write things of as flukes or coincidence.

There are a number of ways to indentify your ability it all starts with understanding how your intuition works and how you receive its messages whether they are: visual (clairvoyant), auditory (clairaudient), or you "just know" (clairsentient), or can you taste or smell it? (there is a reason for the expressions - "it leaves a bad taste in my mouth" and "something doesn't smell quite right)!, or can you touch it (referring to internal physical reactions (like gut intstinct).

I think we all are born with a bit of psychic abilities. You will see it a lot among family members or people who are very close. Mine seem to come out mostly in my dreams, even when I was little. I've noticed that I'll dream about something for several days and then be talking to someone and then will see a connection with the dreams I've been having. For example, last few days I've been dreaming about helping this person build something like a barn, a house? Not quite sure but if things go as they usually do, I'll wind up in a conversation with someone and figure out what it means.

I think psychic abilities, like many things, can be finely tuned if you put the time into focusing on them, practising, etc. Having said that, I do feel that for some it comes much easier or is stronger than others, just as any other gift or talent.

The reason I want to know is because ever since I can remember, I often (though not all the time) know something is going to happen before it does. Too many times I have picked up the phone before it even started ringing because I knew someone was calling me (and I usually know who is on the other line!) Other times I just sense that a particular event is going to take place and it does. It comes and goes, it isn't a constant thing, and I think it is so interesting and I would like for it to be, and I am not sure how to go about sharpening my "skill".

I agree with HB.

I believe that everyone is psychic whether they believe it or recognize it. We are all expressions of the same Whole.

It takes time and effort. Like anything. You want to build muscles or learn a language. It takes awareness to the things around you and in you. Introspection. Compassion.

Hi ya again!

If you want here are some simple things to try. I suggest that you keep a journal or log book and see how often you are right. You may find that over the course of a month, you are right more often in the later part of the month than when you first started ~ a sure indication that you are tuning in and listening!

1. See if you know who’s calling you before you answer the phone (& don’t look at the caller ID first!)
2. “Guess” how much new e-mail you have before you open your e-mail program
3. While you are at it “guess” how much regular mail is in your mailbox. If you are up for a challenge, break it down into categories: flyers, coupons, bills, & actual mail (does anyone actually get real mail anymore?!)
4. Before you turn the radio on in the car – “guess” what’s playing – what song, or is it the news, weather, or sports report?, or what commercial.
5. Speaking of the weather – are you going to believe the weatherman or your intuition about whether or not to take that umbrella with you?

The more you tune in and listen - the better!

Cheers!

My 2 cents on the matter is that we are born with the "power"...how many times has a child surprised us with some sort of intuition thing...when they get older we, as society, begin to get alittle nervous when someone we know and love/like starts spouting off about something happening...we don't want to be embarassed by them or for them to be chastized for it so we teach them to ignore their godgiven powers. This said "child" grows up and goes through life thinking nothing of such things and perhaps even raisng a skeptical eyebrow towards others who are peaceful about their own powers and then all of a sudden BAM [Gasp] something happens and this person who has grown up and away from his powers begins to realize that he has this "new" ability and because it's
percieved as "new" it is like learning to drive....HB is right though, the more you tune in the better you are/get =)
