Hello people!
Just had a bit of a weird experience last night. I woke up, it was in the middle of the night and really dark. The door was open into the livingroom, and I could see right out into it. Then, as I looked there, I started seeing a face, ”floating” in the air. It didn’t feel like it was material or anything, it looked more like something projected onto the air, if you understand what I mean.
Seeing that I felt awake, and I was clear-minded enough to wonder if it was a dream or something else, I watched the head closely. It was a man’s head, 35-45 yrs, with short, dark hair. His face was rather round and quite normal. He was saying something, but I couldn’t hear what. It didn’t seem like he was speaking at me, though, ’cause he was looking slightly to the left of me while talking. Even though I couldn’t hear what he was saying I got the impression that this meant something, was a message of some kind. After a little while the head disappeared, and everything was normal. I lay thinking of it for a while and then fell asleep.
Any of you have an idea of what this was?

My mother experienced something very similar to this several years ago. Mom had been in bed reading, and said that she was fully awake at the time. She was not the type to be overly imaginative, so when she said something happened, everyone believed her.

We were living in a beautiful Victorian home in a small town and had occasionally experienced some paranormal activity.

Oddly enough, on Halloween of one year, Mom saw the head of a woman, about 35 years of age, with a Civil War era hairstyle. I know it sounds really trite, happening on Halloween; I guess it was just weird timing!

We found out later, that the house we had, which was built at the turn of the last century, had replaced a plantation home on that site.

Friends of mine who lived a block from us, had the apparition of an older, African American, slave woman appear to several members of their family in their kitchen. Their home sat on where the slave quarters had been.

My guess would be that you encountered a spirit. Ghosts and spirits take various forms, shadows, mists, full apparitions... I've wondered if it took spirits perhaps more energy to manifest in full body, and those who did not have as much energy where only able to manifest parts of their body. I've got a friend who swears that on several occasions he witnessed a man in jeans running from his backyard to the lake that backed up to his property -- only the jeans were visible.

I know this had to be a bit of a fright and at minimum really perplexing, but it would be interesting to see if this happens again. It makes me wonder who he was talking to. Please keep us updated!

I agree - Ghosts and or spirits do not always have the energy to fully form. When I had a visit from a friend who had just passed I only saw a small part of him (shoulders up basicaly).

Is it possible he was a relative that you don't recall or never had a chance to meet? That could be why you have the impression that a message was in this? Have you experienced paranormal activity in the home before? As Carrie mentioned it will be interesting to see if this happens again. Maybe a dream will provide additional info in the near future as well. Let us know if it does.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I hadn't actually thought of it as a ghost. It seemed so two-dimensional, and felt more like an inner vision projected outwards...And I live in a not-so-old house where nothing bad has actually happened, so ghosts are not especially common in here. But now that you bring it up, Cat, the head did look quite a lot like my great-grandfather, that died some 40 years before I was born. More specifically, it looked just like him in one of the old photographs my grandmother has on the wall. And now that I think about it, the head was actually floating around right in front of an old closet, that came from my great-grandparents home. Hmm, this is getting strange...The last couple of days that closet has been awfully loud, making cracking noises, and my mom insists there's a ghost in it. I've never thought about it so much, though. I wonder if she's right about it.

Ghosts can become attached to objects, and not just places like old houses. It would seem to me that your great-grandfather came along with his closet.

How long have you had the closet and how long has it been making noises? Do you have any strange sensations (dizziness, draining sensation, cold spots) when you're near/in it?

Well, Kevin, we've had the closet for as long as I can remember. But I never noticed the noises until some weeks ago, when it started to come more frequently. I don't feel dizzy or drained from energy or anything around it, no. But on the other hand I think I've always related to it as if it was alive, in some strange way. It feels like more than just a closet, it has some strange tension connected to it. Also, when I was a kid my first cat died in it, by a freak accident that we still haven't quite figured out. So that has sortof added to it's emotional aura, so to say.

Very interesting story and info...I agree with Kevin sometimes a spirit is attached to something...maybe for some reason after all this time your great grandfather has decided to tell you something...it is interesting and I agree with the others please keep us updated on other things...I am very interested in your experience.
