Anyone use the Sony MVC-FD100 for filming MPEG footage on the memory stick?

I used mine for the first time tonight and it worked but was real dark...of course I was in a cemetery with no available light, or moon out yet, but I wanted to try it.

I'd really like to know the correct settings to make MPEG movies in low light if tyou know them.

have you checked to see if there is a night vision adaptor for that cam? it may be your best bet. if there is something to see more than likely it will have its own light anyway tho. but it would be nice to be able to see where u were filming when it appears.

I'm not that familiar with Mavicas but if you're interested in shooting video in the dark, you would probably be better off using a video camera, such as a Sony Handycam with the Nightshot feature. By using a video camera, you get longer shooting times (1 hour on a MiniDV tape), which increases the chances that you'll catch something. Then you can also use the Mavica with a flash, to try and catch orbs.

If you have to use the Mavica, see if it has a slow shutter mode when shooting MPEG. If it has an accessory shoe, you might be able to get a IR light for it, to adapt it for night vision shooting.

Thanks for the info...I guess I'll just go for a camcorder (Sony of course).

I don't know about Mavicas in particular, but my Kodak has a feature under the main menu that corrects the exposure. It makes the photos either brighter or darker to correct for under or over lighting. Maybe try that and see... good luck with your hunt! [Big Grin]
