Found this while browsing. It is the most detailed account of the Skeleton Canyon massacre that I've seen.

I visited Skeleton Canyon with a friend some years back and it does seem as remote now as it was in those days.

Of course there are many rumors of lost treasure here; most of which I think are embellished.
