I've mentioned the Country Tavern before, as the haunted restaurant where I first made the connection between ghosts and feeling dizzy, which led to me becoming even more fascinated with the phenomenon and leading me to discovering this site.

Anyway, tonight, me, my wife, her friend and my sister all went there for dinner. We sat up in the attic area this time, a location I'd never seen before, it was pretty neat. I felt the dizzyish sensation pretty much the whole time we were there, and it got stronger a couple times, but not as strong as the first time I felt the ghost a year ago.

However, my sister and my wife's friend hit the jackpot. Allegedly the ladies' room is one of the most haunted spots in this restaurant, and for obvious reasons, I never went in there. But the friend and my sister did, and when we were driving home I asked them if they felt anything.

My sister said she felt a dizzy sensation, especially strongly in the ladies' room, and she also felt a chill in there. The door also made a strange noise, like someone was about to open it to come in, but she immediately opened the door and looked, and no one was there.

My wife's friend said she felt like there was someone next to her when she was washing her hands, when there was no one there.

Man, I wish there was a way to have coaxed the ghostie into the men's room so I could have experienced it up close! I'm jealous.

My wife's friend mentioned afterward that in her house, she feels strange in certain places, and she hears voices sometimes when no one is there. Plus her cats act like they see things. We're bringing her home tomorrow, so I'm planning to scope the place out and maybe take some pictures if I feel anything!

P.S. My wife thinks we're all whacko! [Laughing] She says she didn't feel a thing.

Sounds like the ladies had a cool experience (no pun intended [Big Grin] ). Well either the ghost is a lady which is why the mens room is not frequented or it's a dirty ol man ghost.

Did you have a camera with you there? Maybe on the next visit have your sister or friend take the camera into the bathroom. Do the workers speak of experiences they have had or other guests have had there? Any sightings? Sounds like a neat place with a little added attraction.

Maybe you will luck out and capture something at your friends place. Let us know if you do.

The Country Tavern is haunted by a ghost named Elizabeth, so it is female. It's one of the attractions there, and there is even a newspaper article about her printed in the menus. They even named one of their dishes after her (Chicken Elizabeth).

I haven't asked the staff about her recently, but there are lots of stories circulating on the web. It seems like she's seen or experienced pretty frequently. Supposedly she likes to play pranks, especially in the ladies room. There are other locations she'll hang out in, and as far as I know she will roam the entire restaurant and she's even been seen outside on the property.

I need to find excuses to visit more often. It's a pretty big place and there's a lot of areas I haven't even seen, like the function hall and bar.

I found a couple more local haunted restaurants in the area, so I've added those to my list of places to check. And I'll have to bring my sister too, since she's also sensitive (as evidenced by last night) and is fascinated by the stuff.

As for our friend's house, I'm bringing the handycam with me. If I feel anything, I'm taking pictures!

I scoped out our friend's allegedly haunted house Saturday morning. She took me through the house, mentioning where things happened, and I took lots of pictures. I didn't find anything out of the ordinary in the pictures. One picture had a tiny spot that looked a little bit like an orb, but I think it was a mark on the wall.

Although I felt a weak sensation in the house, especially around the kitchen, it never got strong, so if there is a ghost there I never got near it.

She had lots of stories to tell though. She's heard voices coming from the kitchen, and then when she came in to check them out, the voices stopped and there was no one there. Then she'd go back into her bedroom and the voices would start up again. This seems to happen a lot in haunted houses from what I've read. She's heard noises in other rooms, and she sometimes feels weird in the kitchen or basement. She also sees a man walking back and forth outside along a path leading to the road from her back yard. When she goes out to talk to him he disappears. Sometimes when her boyfriend is outside the figure will follow him around. She thinks it could be one of his deceased relatives--the house belongs to his parents and it's an old house.

I scoped out every room (except her boyfriend's bedroom, as he was asleep in there), including the basement and the backyard and path, and took about 50 pictures, but nothing unusual turned out in any of them.

I think we should plan a slumber party over there sometime! [Big Grin]

What an interesting place. I wonder what keeps Elizabeth there? The fact she plays pranks says she must have been a fun-loving person while here who enjoyed her humor. Sorry if I missed this in one of your posts - how old is this place and do you know what was there before?

Your friends home sounds like it's had some interesting moments as well. To bad nothing captured this time but there is always the next time. That slumber party has potential even if nothing is captured I'm sure the idea of what you are trying to do would make for a pretty fun night. Do let us know how that goes.

One of these days we need to get a digital camera (have a camcorder just not a camera) as we have lots of activity here. Just a couple weekends back the guys had some friends over that stirred up some activity downstairs in the wee hours. A couple of different ppl besides us(including a skeptic) felt the sudden coolness in the room and caught a glimpse of a outline/shadow. I only had a disposal camera with 3 shots left but gave it a go anyway. Will let you know if we lucked out once I develop them. We have all on different occasions caught a quick glimpse of a mist or what seemed to be a person off in the corner or passing by in another room. My sons have seen more then I have. Any tips on digitals?

The article printed in the back of the menus provide more information on the restaurant and its ghost than anything I could find on the web.

Anyway, it started out as a farmhouse and barn built in the 1700s. Allegedly, Elizabeth was married to a sailor who, upon returning from a year-long voyage, found that she had given birth. You do the math. Anyway, he murdered her and the baby and buried them on the property, and it is believed that Elizabeth is still looking for her baby.

According to the article, after the restaurant opened, the owner had a medium come in to try and communicate with Elizabeth and get her to cross over. After the seance, she settled down a bit but she is still there and still pretty active from what it seems.

The barn and house were combined to make the restaurant. It's a really neat place, and the food is great too, so even if it wasn't haunted it would rate high on my restaurant list. The frequent ghostly activity just adds to the fun of going there. I wonder how many customers go there just because it's haunted.

It makes me wonder what the ladies room was originally in the house. Maybe that's the spot she was killed?

What a sad tragic story. Poor Elizabeth and baby. It does seem that the bathroom holds a secret. If not the location that she was killed then perhaps it is where she thinks the baby still is. If he killed her before the baby then she may not have known that he killed the baby as well and the bathroom may have been the part of the house where the baby was the last time she was with him/her? One could understand why then she may still be there searching for her child.

Even if the medium told her that the baby was gone she may have thought it was a trick or a lie to keep her from her baby. If it is true that time does not exist on the other side then for her this is all still the same day or days that all this happened. Hopefully one day she will be set free to reunite with her child and finaly be at peace.

As I recall, according to the article in the menu, the owner of the restaurant is one of the reasons Elizabeth didn't cross over. Maybe they have some sort of bond, or they're related somehow. Or maybe she gets a kick out of "scaring" the patrons. =)

The baby was allegedly buried under a tree on the property. Elizabeth is often seen looking out one of the windows toward the tree. There's no info on the ladies' room other than it's one of the most haunted spots in the building.

It would be nice for her to be able to cross over and reunite with her baby, but there are at least a few of us "earthers" who would miss her! =)

This story just gets more intriquing. Interesting that they feel the owner of the restaurant is why she didn't cross. Curious though if this happened so long ago, before the restaurant was there, something else kept Elizabeth here back then. It is often said by those able to communicate with the dead that most ghosts have had a tragic death which is why they don't realize or believe they are dead. Also those that have turned away from the light choosing to stay here do so because they do not want to leave loved ones or have something they feel they still need to do. Elizabeth fits into both of these scenarios.

If she still stays now because of the owner (how was that determined by the way?) maybe he was linked to her in a past life - a realtive as you have mentioned or father of the baby? I wonder what attracted him to this property in the first place when he built the restaurant?

If she roams the property, you would think if she felt the baby was where the tree is now that she would spend most of her time there or in that area. I can't help but keep thinking that the last place she was with the baby was somewhere in in the restaurant. If the bathroom is the most haunted it has to be where either she was murdered or is where the baby was last. [Eek!] [Confused]

You mentioned there are other stories - do you have those links by chance? I wouldn't mind reading more on this. For some strange reason this one has a hold on me. =)

If you go back there try talking to her or see if you can sneak into the ladies room and take some pics [Big Grin] (while its unoccupied by the living that is).

According to the article, the medium said that Elizabeth was staying back because of the owner.

It is a cool story, and even more intriguing since I've actually felt her there on more than one occasion. I wish I had more opportunities to go there... since it isn't the "burger 'n fries" type of place I usually frequent, we usually reserve it for special occasions. We eat out too much as it is, as evidenced by my expanding gut and shrinking wallet. =)

I'll have to find out if they ever do "ghost hunts" there, when the restaurant is closed. They're open every day, so I doubt it, unless they do one late at night. That would be the only time it would be safe for me to go into the ladies' room.

I did some google searches, and came up with these tidbits:

According to Online Highways[/URL] the original farmhouse was built in 1741.

The
Country Tavern[/URL]'s own website makes mention of Elizabeth, but doesn't go into detail. It's been mentioned on "Hard Copy" and "Unsolved Mysteries".

This site[/URL] has some info on haunted places in NH - scroll down to Country Tavern.

Here's

Kevin, that is such an interesting story. Sorry that I'm getting to this so late.

Cat, you've brought up some really interesting points. The Ladies room does seem to be key somehow. I agree that it has to be the area that Elizabeth was murdered or where she last saw her baby. Although, the one article says that she was pregnant when she was murdered. So maybe the area where the bathroom is, is where it happened and both her and the baby where buried under the tree? It really leaves room for speculation doesn't it?

I too wonder why it would be the owner of the business that is keeping her there. Cat, I agree that maybe they are connected by a past life. One other thing that came to mind is that maybe she feels like she's helping him. I'm sure that the fact that the restaurant is haunted does draw a lot of business. Although I'm not sure that that would be a good reason, you never know.

Kevin, I think it's great you now have other witnesses to this. Your wife's friend's home sounds very interesting too. I wonder who that man is that she see's walking in the back yard. If the house belongs to her boyfriends parents, does he have any idea who it could be? Or has anything happened in the house that would explain any of the activity? No worries about not capturing anything the first time around. There is always next time. And maybe being able to spend some more time in the house will allow the ghosties to warm up to you. [Wink] They could just be camera shy.

Do let us know if you do go back...and good luck when you do!
