I have a question about my EVP. Here is a bit of background:

I have only tried to attempt EVP one other time. I simply did not have the proper knowledge or equipment to do it correctly.

But I have been doing a lot of reading on the subject lately and I decided to give it another shot.

I said a little prayer, invited positive, friendly, and non-harmful entities to visit, lit a candle & some incense, sat on my bed, meditated for a few minutes to relax, and started up the tape recorder.

The first few attempts, I did not get anything. But then all of a sudden, when playing back one of my sessions, I heard my name!!!!!! It was sorta muffled, so it was probably a Class B or C EVP, but never-the-less, it was there! I heard something at first that I knew was not normal, then when I went back a few times to listen to it so I could figure it out and it is definately my name.

At first I thought maybe it was just wishful thinking. But I had others listen to it (without telling them what I thought it said) and they too said it was my name.

So my question to everyone here is, when I attempt EVP again, how can I try to contact the spirit that said my name? I would like to know who it is and what their their name is. Also to thank that spirit for coming through to me.

Any suggestions?

there is no sure way to contact the same spirit and also you dont need to light the incence or candles or do meditation to get evps just go to a haunted place and hit record on the recorder and start asking questions. also remember that not all evps will come through loud and clear. most of the time i have to amplify the recording 20-40 db. i do evps 2 ways one is with a digital recorder and an omnidirectional external microphone then i put it onto my computer and listen to it through a program called "cool edit" there i can clean it up and amplify the recording as much as i want. the second way i do evp and the way i personally like the best is through my laptop. basically what i do is i start up cool edit and i use a regular computer microphone and i record through cool edit that way i can see right away if there is a possible evp or not (cool edit has a display when you are recording that allows you to see the wavelengths as they are being recorded kinda like a heart monitor any fluctuation will show up.) then i can go back and listen to the possible evp and ask questions accordingly. congrats on your evp is there any way for you to post it?

Conagrats on getting an EVP. I look forward to hearing it when you are able.

Doing candles or incense is not needed I agree but I also agree that if that helps you focus or brings you peace with meditation then by all means use it. One little tip though be sure the candles are white. Spirits are drawn to the light of a candle so you should use white candles.

As for reaching the same spirit again, I suppose that could also depend if the one you captured was someone who was trying or wanting to reach you. If it was random (as most are I think) then likely not. However it does make one think - if you capture an EVP in a location known for ghostly activity then why couldn't capture the same one? If you have a ghost in your home that is always there and you manage to capture an EVP of them, then couldn't you capture that same ghost again if you kept trying? It's not like they are going anywhere if they have been there a long time. At least not without help crossing over.

Damien using your laptop sounds like an interesting and step saving way to do this. Can you determine with this method if a voice you capture is the same or not if you get more than one from the same location?

Well good luck with your future tries with this Ghostlover.

Allow me to take this thread in a slightly different direction......

Is it wise to sit in ones own house while attempting to summon up spirits?

Perhaps it may not be as unwise as calling spirits with a Ouija Board but I think it is a somewhat similar situation......

Sounds like it's a 50/50 chance that you may come in contact with someone (or something) you might not want to communicate with.....

Question, what is an evp?

Why would someone worry about where they "summon" spirits? Spirits are everywhere anyways.

An EVP is an Electronic Voice Phenomenon. Have a look under paranormal - left side of the message board there is a list of things to link to on the site including EVP - you can hear some examples. =)

Sweet site, Damien. You are so lucky to have a paranormal group close to home. I'm jealous... [Booty]

Thanks Damien. Nice site you guys have. I wish I would have found a reputable investigation team while living in our old place - the activity there was quite something and I have no doubt that it would have been worthwhile to have a team come in. If only I knew then what I do now I would have tried to capture something myself. [Sigh] I'm thinking of having someone come here as well - found one group that may be ok. To bad you guys were not close by. Who knows maybe I'll luck out down the road myself.
