My husband and I recently bought his family's home farm. We built a new home directly behind the old farmhouse. The old house (over 125 years old)will be coming down soon. I feel like we need to do something for the energies left in the home before we tear down. Any suggestions?
I know there must be some energies here because my sister took some excellent pictures of us painting in the new house and it's filled with orbs!

Filled with orbs? That sounds like dust to me, especially if you were renovating. Have you had any unusual experiences or strange sensations to indicate that you have an unseen presence?

As for tearing down the farmhouse, I'd just tear it down. Ghosts often have no sense of time, or even what is currently in the location they haunt, so if they're haunting the house they'll likely continue to go on haunting the location as if the house was still there.

I would have dismissed them as dust too, but the pictures before and after taken the same day in the same area are completely clear! If I can figure out how, I'll try to post them. As far as the old house goes, I feel better knowing that it will probably be ok without doing anything.
The only odd things that have happened have been the T.V. turning off by itself, smelling very definite, out-of-context odors. But my mom passed away very recently so I'm chalking it up to her just saying "hey"!
Thanks for your input!!!!

I would like to suggest to do pretty much the same as a house cleaning but do it as a ceremony to 'encourage' any spirits to move on. With the passing of the house they are much more likely to receive the energy you give in the ceremony.
If you have sage, a smudge stick, tingshas use them.
I find the best way to perform such a thing is be focused on it for a while before you do it. Set your spirit on it. Sit or stand a moment before you enter the house and focus on what you want to do. Then enter the house. You can be in one place and say your 'prayer' for the release of the energies or walk through each room, or 'pray' in each doorway, spend time in each room. Anyway is as good as another as long as it is how you feel.

It's nice and a good thing, what you want to do. Anyone who has the sense to feel that doing this is a good thing and should be done will do fine in doing it. I hope all goes well and the energies of the place that the house once was will be well.

And Kevin is right. While some ghosts do move on when a structure or area they haunt goes away or is changed, many others go right on haunting the same place. They even start to haunt nearby structures.

If I were to do a smudging with sage, would there be a particular time that would be best? Full moon, quarter moon, etc?

Er, maybe someone has information or an opinion about that. For me, I've always only done it when my spirit was ready for it. Like I said it takes preparation. But I've never waited until a particular time of day, week, month, season, astrological positioning.
Though I do believe that certain times are more conducive than other times. But I never coordinated it.
For me, it's always been where your spirit is. If I don't feel my spirit is in the right place for it I will not do it. When it is, I do it. To me, it's the connection to God/Universe/AllThatIs is what matters most of all.
Everyone has there own beliefs and preferences.

Thanks for everyone's input! I guess I'll just have to follow what my heart tells me and conduct what feels right. [Rainbow Smiley]

I guess I should have looked down here before posting a hello to your intro post. =)

The only time I have done a smudge (had someone with experience come and do it with me) to try and free a ghost that was bound to our previous home it was done with 4 things - sage, cedar, sweet grass and tobacco. Well it turned out the fellow did not want to leave and did not like our trying to get rid of him so activity increased. [Sigh]

I agree with Nakis it is a very nice thing your wanting to do something. I also agree with Kevin that if a ghost is hanging about, taking down the building they are in will not make them simply go away. Shoot many ghosts are linked to buildings that were on the land (or the land itself) long ago before the one they are currently residing in was built.

I like your comments on following your heart and do what feels right. =)

If your wanting them to move on before the house comes down. Maybe try salting the rooms one by one and asking them to move on to the light. As far as sage cleansings , I'm not sure we have just done them when they were needed.
