I'm trying to find the title to a song. The song was produced and published by a modern rock/alternative band within the past 4-6 years. I believe it's about heroine abuse (it has heroine use stuff in it but maybe it's only metaphorical).

The reason why I am looking for it is that Johnny Cash did this awesome remake of it before he died. The original band did an awesome job with the song but Cash took it someplace else and made it his song. I want to pick up the CD that has that song but I just don't want to pick up the wrong one by accident. I was hoping to learn the name of the song since I can't remember the name of the original band.

Can anyone help?

The name of the band is Nirvana. I know which song you are talking about...but I can't remember the title off the top of my head. If I think of it though, I'll post. =)

I don't think it's Nirvana Trin... I don't remember Johnny Cash doing any of their songs. Kurt Cobain was big into heroine tho. I'm pretty sure Nakis is talking about Nine Inch Nails the song is called "Hurt" and is on the album "Downward Spiral" Johnny Cash remade that song.

I could be wrong but I'm almost possitive.

Here... I looked up the lyrics.

"I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
You could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear my crown of sh*t
on my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stain of time
the feeling disappears
you are someone else
I am still right here
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way"

ThAT'S IT, THAT'S IT, THAT'S IT!!!!!!!

Thanks Trin and Candi. I knew one you was going to come up with it. Thanks.
For the life of me I couldn't remember who did that. I don't know if I ever knew the title.

And you even knew which CD Cash did it on Candi. OOOOOHHH! I'm impressed. =) =) =)

Thanks again.

Now, all I need to do is remember the name of the CD when I'm in CD store. Uh, right...

You're absolutely right Candi! Had the wrong song going around in my head. Awesome song btw....awesome album too! (Downward Spiral that is)

I just looked it up on the net and this is the name of the album that the Johnny Cash version of Hurt is on. American IV: The Man Comes Around

Let us know if you find it! [Wink]

I found it. Thanks.
It's pretty d@mn good. A couple of the songs I'm not so sure he should have converted to his style (maybe I'm not used to hearing his style). But most of the tracks are really good. I definitely have a mood for listening to his music.

I love it when I find a new style of music for my moods. I mostly listen grunge/metal/rock since that appeals best to many of my moods (besides silence) but there are so many wonderful styles of music and so many talented artists of all styles.
It's great to find a new one. =) =)

Thanks again for the help.

Nakis,

Glad we could both help ya!! It was team work! =)

I absolutely love music! I would be so lost without it! I love hearing new stuff too. Our rock radio station sends everyone on the mailing list this Rate the Music thing and you have to listen to a clip of a song and write whether you like it, hate it, love it, ect. It's really fun and it's definitely a good way to hear new stuff! I get one every week.

Have you heard of the band Coheed and Cambria? I just started listening to them. I love this one song. But... I seriously thought the lead singer was a girl!!! lol!! I don't hear a guy in there at all but the lead singer is in fact a dude. I'm not sure what genre to put this band into but they play them on the Rock/Alternative station..

Here is a link for the song I really like right now by them. I love the lyrics!
