When I was at the video rental two days ago I rented the documentary Scared Straight.
It was made and shown on television back in 1978 and I recall a friend telling me about it after he had seen it, but never saw it myself.
This is about that program started at the state prison in New Jersey in which young juvenile defenders are taken into the prison to give them a view of prison life which includes an intense session with a group of inmates who literally scare these kids into redirecting their lives if they don't wish to end up in prison.
This particular video shows the original documentary and is followed by an update hosted by Danny Glover of the kids and the inmates who were in the session.
