Forums · anyone know if this story is real?
This sounds really stupid, but it's killing me that I can't remember this story. It was something about the heiress (sp?) of a gun company thinking that the ghosts of the people the company's guns had killed were after her. Does that ring any bells? She built this crazy mansion that had all these doors and staircases that led nowhere. I think the story went that she finally just walked out the wrong door and slipped off the second or third story of the house. I don't know but it's killing me because I think that the story was real but I can't remember the names or where it happened... Can anyone offer any help?

There is lots of info about that house all over the net. If I remember right she died of natural causes. I don't think that her husband ever actually ran the company. From what I read the thing that really pushed her over the edge was the death of her baby daughter, she had spent time in a mental sanitarium and eventually a psychic of some sort told her about appeasing the deaths caused by the Winchester rifles by building a house- the story gets foggy there. She lived out her life a recluse and continued building until she died.

It sure is quite the bizarre story isn't it! I have a neat booklet that I picked up from the gift shop at the house which provides some interesting details and facts. My family and I had an opportunity to take a tour of the house (well only part of it the tour is only of about 100 rooms or so) - it was very interesting and rather amazing. Some very beautiful woodwork and glass etc. in the home. The maze of rooms and strange details are something to see. If you are ever in the area (San Jose) do go on a tour it's a neat experience. If you are sensitive to the unseen or have ever experienced the odd sensations that can occur when you are in a haunted area then there is a good chance you will have that experience here. We did.
