Somewhere, I read about a rich man whom lived in Chicago and built a 'castle' along the lake in the late 1800's. He would lure immigrants to his home with the promise of labor and good pay. People began disappearing, and the public began to suspect this man of murder, even though he claimed they left his employment of their own free will and didn't come back. Because of his wealth and standing in the community not much was done for a while. When the police finally raided his house they found a dungeon, a torture chamber, tortureing devices, secret passage ways and dead bodies. He was arressted and put in jail. I don't know how he died but before he did he confessed to being Jack the Ripper.
I bought this book a few weeks ago and haven't read it yet (I still have to finish reading The Stranger Beside Me) but I think Devil in the White City is about that man. Non-fiction. Anyone read this book?

Please let me know how it ended.

I haven't read a book in 6 years...It's kinda hard for me to get back into it because I used to light up a cig every other page or so...Not kidding!....I used to read a novel a night....Was smoking 2 large packs a day.

I'm trying to read small paperback....but I prefer to be on the computer. =)

Wow Spook, I guess I wouldn't recommend a book to ya. [No] How about audio books? I used to listen to those sometimes while I was painting or drawing. Sometimes I'll listen to old radio shows. They were before my time, but ahhhh,...nostalgia!
Yeah, I'll let you know the lowdown on 'Devil in the White City' but it may be a while yet.

I hope you never read 'War and Peace'! [Laughing] [Laughing] [Laughing]
