Man, I thought I was going to die. No exaggeration
at all, I've experienced miserable stomach flu's before and one really bad hangover but nothing like this. I nearly passed out more than once, I was so pale that my lips where pasty white and my face was green, I was so weak that all I could do was lie on the carpet sweating and shivering while praying that the next round wouldn't make me pass out and choke and that you can't actually break your ribs puking.

Fortunately everything is gone from my entire digestive system and I feel much better. Well, I actually feel like I laid myself down on the freeway and let rush hour traffic run me over, but at this point I'm considering that a small thing. I can tell you for sure, I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever have Mongolian Barbeque again.

Thanks for listening to me whine. [Nerd]

Oh, Renee!!!! That sounds just dreadful! I am so glad you are on your way to feeling better now! I have never had food poisoning before, and hope I never do, based on your description. How awful it must have been! Were you alone when this happened? A little trip to the ER might have lessened the symptoms a little, but you would obviously need someone's help to get there.

Much love and soft hugs,

Mare

Oh, Renee!! Been there, done that, won't go back again.

I had this a few years ago at a local greasy spoon that was (emphasis on was) popular in town. I ordered a chicken sandwich -- looked good, tasted ok, made me sick as could be. I don't think I've had a chicken sandwich since.

I actually broke out in tiny little red dots on areas in my face. I think, and this is gross, I dry-heaved so hard I broke some capillaries.

You are gonna be so sore for several days, but you will start to feel like a human being again, I promise. Get plenty of rest, drink fluids, if you can keep them down. Dramamine does wonders, but it will knock you out. ((((very tender hugs))))

Thanks guys. [Rainbow Smiley] I'm really feeling better now, I finally got up the energy to take a shower and that makes a world of difference. I took Ibuprofen for the feverish muscle aches, which really helped, I've been drinking lots of water and a little GingerAle, and hubby got me cinamon graham crackers which I'm eating slowly.

Mare, hubby was home with me and he did ask me if I wanted to go to the hospital but there just isn't a whole lot they can do for you other than keep you hydrated, I think that unless there's complications it has to just run it's course. So I figured I'd just wait and see cause puking in their waiting room for two hours wasn't all that appealling either.

Carrie, that sounded horrible. You know, people laugh at me because I'm so paranoid about preparing food, particularly poultry, but you know, let them experience something like you and I had and they'll start thinking twice about making sure their meat cooks at the proper temperature, and that they rinse all their veggies thoroughly -none of that supposedly pre-washed packaged stuff-, and aren't so lazy putting away the leftovers. Major pet peeve for me.

I'm just glad that I'm feeling better, tired still but better. Thanks for your hugs. =)

I am really glad to hear that you are feling better, Renee. You know, one of the best things to help get re-hydrated after a bout with anything like this with nausea or diarrhea is a water from the drugstore called Pedialyte. It is actually for babies, but is highly recommended for anyone because it contains electrolytes in it that are so important to get the ol' system in balance again. It also works very well for sick animals. We have used it for one of our previous dogs, and it worked wonders. But, no matter how you did it, I am glad you are sipping the liquids again and nibbling on the graham crackers. ::hugs::

It is so good to see you back here more often in recent weeks, Renee. I have missed you, and I am sure alot of others have, too. Welcome home! =P

Hi Renee,

Sorry a bit late on the post. That sure was a nasty bout glad to see you are starting to feel better - soft hugs from me too.

I too experienced this, only once thankfully. Many years ago when I was a teen I foolishly left a container of chip dip out over night and decided to have some the next day. Bad move as I became violently ill, it was horrible.

I agree with you Renee we need to be very careful to cook and handle meat properly as well as wash veggies etc. I now will also toss left-overs if they did not get into the fridge soon after dinner. I'd rather be safe then sorry. I've read that more often then we realize that fluish feeling you have some days is actually due to something we ate and not a virus. Makes you think. I avoid most buffets also as who knows how long some of the food items have been sitting out and how many hands have touched that piece of fruit/veggie or bun even and put it back. Germorama.

I'm so glad I'm not the only paranoid person here! Hubby fusses about me putting food up so quickly. I avoid buffets also -- I've seen way too many of the kiddie set putting little unwashed hands in things with no adult supervision. Yuck!

Glad you're feeling better Renee! I'd forgotten about the Pedialyte that Mare mentioned, but I've heard it recommended before. Didn't know about giving it to animals, I'll have to remember that. Take it easy and get a good nights rest.

Hi Renee -

Glad you're feeling better. Ugh, now I know why I don't eat much meat. [Sigh] I'm with yall about avoiding buffets. I try really hard to keep away from stomach viruses or yucky food. Since I had stomach surgery 5 years ago, I'm unable to "heave." Believe it or not, sometimes being able to purge (to put it nicely) is a lot better than not being able to. To imagine being that sick and not being able to heave, makes me shudder. [Eek!]

Wishing you well,
Pate

I have a low level food poisoning on a regular basis. I look forward to it to clear up any persistent constipation.
Some of the food poisoning is actually just our digestive systems not being accustmed to Asian, or Mexican seasonings.
I am most leary of salads in buffets, and Mom & Pop hometown cafes. However it doesn't stop me from eating out.
Places that have given me the "runs", I earmark for the next time I'm constipated. I guess I'm the kind of a person who could make a silk purse out of a pig's ear!

I have been a herbalist for years, due to lots of illnesses in my family, and lack of trust(for very good reasons)in the medical dept. I have found that drinking Apple Cider Vinegar at the first signs of food poisoning is a fast cure! Drink 1/8 cup, every half an hour in the beginning, and then every hour , then 1/16 cup every couple of hours until it has passed. If you can't drink it straight, you can mix with warm water to dilute. Apple Cider Vinegar is so good for alot of different things, look into it, you'll be glad you did(and amazed!!)

Awww Renee =( I feel for you sweetie. I'm glad to hear your feeling better now! I sure did get it once many years ago and it was possibly the sickest I've ever been. I remember having hallucinations and passing out once.

Since then I'm very picky about meat too. I learned that something most all of us have done at one time or another without thinking could be creating some of our tummy problems---when making a sandwich, you should never spread mayo directly on the meat...instead put it on the other piece of bread. Reason being, if you put the knife back into the jar, you could be putting possible germs from that meat into the mayo and contaminating the whole jar. Bacteria is not stingy at all you know, it loves to share! [Roll Eyes]

I'm glad you're feeling better Renee.
Take it easy and eat only foods you feel like eating. Whatever it is. Your body will tell you what you should eat.

I've had it several times before. After I had my appendix I started getting it. I can't remember it happening before.
For me it starts with head spins. No. No drinking alcohol involved. Then all the wonderful bodily rejections start happening.
I found, for me, just to purge as much as I can. Get it over with. Then just sit up in bed as long as I have to. I can't lay down or else the world starts spinning again and I start to heave.
Ginger ale does nothing for me or at worst starts me purging again.

I think it affects different people in different ways.

And Mongolian BBQ is probably lethal to everyone but Mongolians. =) =) =)
