Hi folks,
I'm curious about something- frustrated, actually, thus the Icon, lol.
I have heard people spout very, very convincing data while holding objects- psychometry, in other words. I obviously don't have this...ability, gift, what have you...myself, although I have given it the old college try on numerous occasions.
Presumably, some of you have experience with this. If you don't mind, would you explain what it feels like? Do you see images, or just get impressions...is it like a daydream, or more like peering through a window? Do you experince emotions- i.e. if you get information about, say, a violent crime...do you feel empathy? My belief in psychics and mediums is vague..I have experienced people who told me things they could not possibly know, very specific things, so I believe something exists, but it confounds me. Of all of the "skills" in the PN realm, the one I most wish I possessed is psychometry. Perhaps if I understood exactly what people experienced, I could focus more on a specific result and be successful.
My godfather once gave me a peridot ring that he had purchased in Africa- he told me nothing more about it. It was a hand-hammered silver ring with a huge green peridot in it- no markings of any kind. I was at a psychic fair with my Aunt years later, and just on a whim I handed her the ring. She immediately turned pasty white and told me that the original owner- and also the creator- of the ring had died horribly; she believed he had been shot. She also said he was a black man.
I asked my godfather later, and..it turned out he had purchased the ring at what passed for an estate sale in Zimbabwe. The owner had been a jewlery maker, and he had been killed in a political uprising of some sort- he had, in fact, been shot.
This, needless to say, impressed the heck out of me. How could she possibly know that? I'd really like to know more about this...craft.

Thanks for listenin', love you guys!

Jamie, I do not consider myself psychic, and I can't speak for anyone who is. However, I have on occasion tapped into something and experienced what I believe to be psychometry. For me, I get "flashes", almost like watching a movie. Your analogy of looking through a window would be accurate. When it happens, my mind is usually pretty clear and the images just pop into my head, very disjointedly.

As for the second question; yes, I definitely pick up on emotions. I'm an antique lover, but occasionally, going into shops is a little overwhelming. There are some things that I'm drawn to, that have overwhelmingly positive "vibes", where I feel the original owner had a good, positive life. Other things I wouldn't bring home at all, and want nothing more than to get away from. We've had several threads on other people experiencing this phenomenon, which I would put into the category of psychometry. I also believe that some objects can be haunted, or have spirits attached to them. A lot of these odd feelings around pre-owned merchandise may be attributed to that.

Like I said, I do not consider myself psychic. It isn't something I'm really able to call up when I choose to. However, every once in a while, it does kick in. I would like to be able to do it at will, but for me it just doesn't work that way. When it does though, it comes on strong.

I was watching Court TV a few months ago, where they were interviewing a psychic that Scott Peterson's mother had hired in hopes to gain clues about the case. The lady had asked Scott to send her something Laci had worn. He sent in a shoe that had never been worn, and a sweatshirt that was fairly new. The psychic was not able to pick up much. However, the envelope he sent them in was another story. Whatever her findings where (she was not allowed to discuss it, considering at that time the trial was going on) they did not please the Peterson family and the information was sent on to police. I thought that was a really interesting tidbit about psychometry being put to use for something like that. Watching the interview, I believe the psychic was genuine, and was supposedly right on target on several things (including the conviction) long before the information was available to the public.

I have had similar experiences to Carrie. I also do not call myself a psychic nor can I pick up just any object and feel something from it.

I have had flashes of an image that seemed to just pop into my minds eye. These are fairly clear but very brief. I've also had more fragmented ones, mini glimpses, and I have no idea what to make of them. Sometimes it's just a very strong feeling or emotion that comes with touching something, usually older items and clothes in particular. This does not happen frequently just once in awhile. It does resemble that feeling you get when meeting certain people for the first time, or visiting a place you've never been that has an odd energy attached to it.

All objects hold energy to varied degrees. I feel psychometery is one area that everyone can develop. Maybe not to the degree of those that can tap in at will no matter how strong or weak the energy but certainly to some degree we all can. I also agree with Carrie that some objects are haunted, a ghost remains attached to it the same way as they do to a place.

Carrie - that's a very interesting tidbit on psychometery being put to use, would love to know what she felt with that envelope.

Well, I haven't been able to do this for some years now, but when I could I never got any pictures. More oftern it was a word that just pops out of my mouth, I didn't really have much control over it. And for really powerful objects I'd get a feeling in my solarplexus.

It's often different for different people. We all are unique and how we see things vary.

For me it's mostly getting a download of information. I have to think on it and sort through it to get details.

A lot depends on the energy and type of energy in the object or place.

Sometimes it's just feelings. Sometimes I visually see nothing but only get the emotions and thoughts and a knowing of things.

It's like the rest of life. Everything and everyone is different to some degree.
Its one of the things that make this ability of ours so hard to measure.
