I am looking at houses near Fort Drum as that is where my family will be stationed when my husband comes back. As I am looking online, I am finding a lot of old victorian homes with virtual tours and/or many pictures of the insides. Is it possible to get a "vibe" from a house that way? I had to stop the virtual tour on one of them because the feelings I was getting were so negative, I couldn't stand to keep watching it. Many of the houses give me the same bad feelings as well.

Anyone ever feel that way from a picture?

Hi Wacava,

I think you can pick up vibes all sorts of ways including looking at pictures. I would trust your instincts and stay clear of any home that gives you an uneasy feeling. You may very well be picking up on left over negative energy or even something more.

Another thought - Seeing you are getting bad feelings with a few any chance there is something about the old Victorian style that doesn't sit well with you, could be something that's not on the forefront of your mind? Or even something long forgotten from a previous time (if you believe in past lives)?

Good luck with your house hunting, the right one will come along, Cat =)

Hi Cat!

I do believe in past lives. I actually think I had drown in a former life.

I don't think it is the victorian style because some of them I could see myself living in. We are actually looking at one that was built in 1865 and I get such a great feeling when I see it. It is just odd how these certain few seem to give me the "creeps"

Then I would have to venture back to my first thought that you are picking up some negative energy or otherwise and stay clear of the ones that make you feel that way. Sounds like you have your eye on a good one with the great feelings it gives you. I love older homes they have such beauty and character. =)

I agree that there was something not so good with those houses. I would love to move into that one but, we found out that we won't be able to move for about a year. Oh well, will have to let the house go. If we had the money, I would love to restore an old victorian, as long as it doesn't give me any bad feelings! [Eek!]

Thanks for your thoughts on it. My husband looked at the one virtual tour and said he didn't feel anything. If I can find it again, I will post the link and maybe you can see what you feel?

Wow Wacava, My husband and I are currently doing the exact same thing. . . looking for an old victorian to fix up. You just get so much more house for your money! We love the idea of living in a house with some historical "flavor" to it. It's just so much more interesting than knowing that you live in some brand new, never lived in, commercially thrown together house, y'know! There is a small town East of where we live now, and it is said to be one of the most historical towns in Missouri. Most of the houses are from as early as the 1850's, and there are tons of old victorians. One in particular that we have our sights on was built in 1900 and it is just gorgeous. Of course it needs a lot of work, too. But being the kind of person I am, a paranormal investigator, I keep my senses on high alert any time we look at these houses. One house we looked at literally turned my stomach and made me dizzy when I walked up or down the stair case. I had to get out quickly, and my husband didn't even question me, because he felt the same thing in the basement! We both had separated to explore the house and he just happened to be in the basement as I was going upstairs, and back down. So we both got that feeling at the same time. Needless to say, we passed. There is an instance, too, where the same thing happened to me that has happened to you! We found this house on an internet site, and from just looking at the pictures, especially inside, I got a cold chill that ran up my back and literally would not go away until we turned the page! I will not go see that house.
My husband jokingly says that we need to be looking for a haunted place so I can continue my paranormal studies in our own home, but I disagree. I am not the type to bring my work home with me!

Thanks Haunted!

I agree, it really will be a lot of fun to restore an old house. My grandfather lived in an old farmhouse that was about 275 years old. It still had the original oil lamps hanging in the dining room. There was so much I would have done to that house!I do not want to have to rebuild from the ground up, we will have to be able to live in the house as we are working on it as well.

The hardest part is finding one that doesn't trigger anything negative. My oldest daughter picks up on those feelings very easily and I don't want her to be miserable in her own house.

The search will continue next year though. My husband is leaving in March for a year so, I have to wait to buy something at his new duty station.

Hi wacava:

I'm sure you can get feelings from looking at pics of houses. We get them here all the time looking at pics. [Wink] Seriuosly, though. if I had a bad feeling, I'd just pass. I live in the historic district in Savannah, GA. Every house around here has it's ghost stories, and I know quite a few of them have been validated. I live in a Victorian, built in the mid 1800's. We've seen shadows and things get misplaced and my son has had a couple of experiences here. I guess, I'm just used to it, and I don't feel threatened. If you do go look at a house and get an uncomfy feeling, don't go through the house alone. That's one of the #1 rules in paranormal investigation. Keep your buddy with ya. There's a lot to be said for living in an old house, and one thing I can say... the restoration is never quite complete...be prepared for the old money pit. They can have a lot of hidden expenses. All of a sudden those new houses don't seem so bad. =P Happy house and ghost hunting... and have a Merry Christmas.

Hugs,
Pate

Hi Pate!

My husband and I have already talked about the "money pit" We have decided that whatever we buy will have to have been recently worked on such as heater, roof and anything expensive! This will be our first house and we want to start with a house that needs some cosmetic restoring. I do stained glass and would like to find some nice windows to redo.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Hugs,
Chris

I agree about the "big" stuff. We are looking for a house with recently replaced roof, water heater, furnace and central air. My mother in-law also does stained glass and we are thinking the same thing for some windows, Wacava. I usually get the feelings if we are in a place with a "presence". But I am always open to that, when my husband and I first married he was a total skeptic, and it is so cool, because now he actually asks me questions and listens to what I have to say! I think I may have turned him into somewhat of a believer, although he still claims to be skeptical. It is funny because he has even had dreams that the house we find turns out to be haunted and he is nearly scared to death of that happening! Look what I have done to this poor man!

I always try to keep my husband on his toes. We are forever having the conversation about ghosts and such. He was a believer when we met in High School but for some reason, lost his beliefs.

I just stumbled onto this topic. Fascinating stuff! Since I can "feel" things, I'd love to check out some pictures if someone here has a feeling about them, make sure to post the links.

Although I've never felt a negative (or postive for that matter) impression when looking at pictures of houses, other than the normal "I like that" or "I don't like that" impression, I had a feeling about a certain personal ad that I ended up responding to, which led to me meeting my wife. I've posted that story on the site before.

Haunted, do you mind if I ask which small town you are referring to? I am from SE Missouri. Could it be St. Genevieve? I have always wanted to go there for the historical tours and things.

Can you describe the "odd" feeling? I looked at the pic and watched the video. I can't say I felt "odd" or any sort of dread, but I felt "something". Probably just an impression related to memories I've had of being in Victorian houses in my past, or something along those lines. Nothing that jumped out at me. But then whatever "6th sense" I have is far from refined. I don't hang around enough dead people to know if I can see them I guess. =)

If certain Victorian houses cause you to feel dread, maybe the images are bringing back forgotten memories? Or a past life event? I hope to see more pics/videos of houses that give you a "vibe".

Hi Kevin,

I am not sure if I can describe the feeling that this house gave me. I just had a nervous feeling while watching it. I felt as though something was going to happen but, didn't know what.

A different house was the one that gave me the horrible feeling of dread.

It is possible that something has happened in a past life but, I don't get this feeling with all the victorians I have looked at.

There are many old victorians in the Watertown, NY area and I am sure I will find more that give me some type of feeling.
