I've been a member for a few days but have been mostly confined to a Waverly Hills discussion.
I am co-founder of a research team in KY and I specialize in historical research of locations as well as "debunking" or finding factual info to confirm or disprove legends.
I have found that "haunted" sites usually have a significant historical value to the community as well as to genealogists once the truth comes to light, and I try to share this info with the public. One of my favorite things to do when investigating an old cemetery that is rumored to be haunted is to record all of the inscriptions and transcribing them into findagrave.com. In my opinion it is a great way to honor those who we may be investigating. The historical research is a very important aspect of investigations, and it is all too often neglected.
So a big thanks to all you researchers out there. Keep up the good work, and let the truth keep rolling in. Any group can spread legends or even add to them, it takes a special dedication to track down the facts.

Hello Truthseeker,

It's nice to meet you. Welcome to Spiritkeep. The amount of time and effort you put into your investigations is admirable. Along with the focused investigations of locations that have a legend associated to them do you also do PN investigations in locales without legend associated, like a private residence for example? I agree, historical information of "haunted" sites is an important aspect when seeking the truth. Even for those who are not active investigators but PN experiencers, knowing the history of a home or building that activity is experienced in can prove to be valuable information to have.

I look forward to hearing about some of your investigations and findings, should you wish to share them. Nice to have you with us.

Enjoy, Cat =)

Hi There TruthSeeker:

It's great to have you with us. I do a little PN investigating; but, I don't have the experience that you have. Being from a historic city (Savannah, GA,) I know how important of a role it is to have the historical facts. In Savannah, you're literally walking on bodies anywhere in the historic district and there's a tale to tell on every corner. I have had some first-hand experiences at the 17 Hundred 90's Inn and at Fort Pulaski. I know how rumors and storytelling can lead to false information. Southerners are the best at storytelling. [Wink] I like the idea of taking the inscriptions and adding them to Find A Grave. I recently joined the site, so I'll follow your lead. I'll have to add some really interesting ones from Bonaventure, next time I pay a visit there. Thank you for sharing and once again, welcome.

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, we do investigations at private homes. In those cases we help locate old deeds and research the property to find possible leads to the cause of any reported paranormal activity. Often we encourage the owners/residents to do the research themselves as they live close to the sources of info (courthouses, and libraries) whereas we may be several miles away. We give them tips on what to look for and where they may find it. Sometimes we even help with some genealogical searches if applicable to the case. This not only helps cut down our mileage and gets the info handy for our preliminary visit, it also helps them learn about the history of their home and find answers for themselves. Most people are uncomfortable being stuck on the sidelines watching strangers doing all the work while they remain confused and scared. Our goal is not just to confirm or explain away paranormal activity, it is also to help the residents to understand what they may be encountering.
It's amazing how much simple things like:
-giving someone people to talk to who don't think they are crazy
-showing them how to research
-explaining how to keep a journal and what to look for,
helps to make people feel more in control of their lives.
I will not be talking alot about specific places, but I would be willing to share some of our findings. Not only do we have disclosure agreements with the owners of most research sites, but we also avoid posting the names of places so as not to encourage trespassers. Not saying that the members here would do so, but it is an open forum that can be read by anyone. Waverly, btw, has an active security force and the owners are bringing it plenty of attention with the movies due out this year as well as the annual haunted house and tours. Not to mention that others have already posted about it in this board. So I see no problem with mentioning it.

Thanks again for the welcome.
