Well, I saw it today... Where to start? Overall, it's a good story, and okay movie... It was worth the 5.00 at matinee, but I wouldn't pay 7 or 8 bucks to see it. I always like Michael Keaton and he was really good in his part. It wasn't scarey in the least, I don't think I jumped once. Gothika was much more intriguing.
On the EVP side of it, I could identify with the way he felt when he heard his wife's EVP, because when it happens directly to you, it will bring you to tears. Believe me. Of course, we all know it's not that common to be able to actually "see" the spirit when an EVP is recorded.

I think that part gives a false impression to people who are not really familiar with it. The movie did do what I thought it would, and that is portray EVP's as evil and you shouldn't "meddle" in it, etc... At the end of the movie, they put a statement up on the screen that says, "1 out of 12 EVP's are threatening in nature." I'm not sure how true that is, I have no idea. Sometimes, I think EVPs sound threatening because the voice is coming from "the other side" and usually only a few words are spoken and you're left to guess the meaning behind them.
The very last little scene was "sappy" to me.

(I won't give the ending away.) They were definitely going for an audience in my opinion, rather than dealing with fact. But hey, that's what movies are for, it wasn't a documentary. I'd either go see it at a matinee feature which is usually a couple bucks cheaper, or rent it on pay-per-view, or wait till it hits the video stores.
