Good afternoon, this is my first time ever using any type of message board but I am needing some advice.
We purchased a home in November. I have been researching the home's history and it was built before 1866. Two of the home's owners died while they owned this house. Now I have not seen anything unusual and feel very at home here and so do my 4 year old and 8 year old. My 21 year old daughter walked in the day we moved in and said this house gives her the creeps and claims she feels uncomfortable here.
My brother was here a few days ago and described in detail a woman sitting in a rocking chair. He has seen her twice and we have not seen anything.
My research shows that there was a spinster woman living here for 40 to 50 years and passed while she owned this house. I have a feeling it is her that my brother sees. I feel she is good and would like to communicate with her if at all possible. I have never had any ghostly experiences ever, I am 43, this is a first for me. The other odd thing was when we took some pictures in the living room one of the photos showed 5 perfect orbs on the double doors leading to another room. First time I have seen this as well. Any advice on how I could communicate with my ghost? Would love to hear from you. Thanks, Nikola

If you really want to communicate with her, all you have to do is talk to her. If you want to see if she answers, then you need a digital voice recorder with usb hookup. That way you can upload your recording to the computer. We have several posts in the Ghostly Photos and EVP's forum regarding getting EVPs. Spirits communicate on frequency that is inaudible to the human ear, (most of the time, but not always.) This will be picked up by a digital voice recorder. You can also use a digital camera and ask the ghost if she would like to be in your picture, or if she minds if you take her pic. After you take a few pictures, be sure to tell her thank you. That may sound weird, since you haven't done this before, but in my opinion, it is very important and you are more likely to get results.
At this point, it's hard to say for sure whether what your brother is seeing is actually a ghost or an imprint or a bleed through. Since you or your younger children have not experienced or noticed things that are normally a sign of a haunting or spirit visitation, it's possible that it's not a ghost or a spirit. Young children are usually fairly perceptive to paranormal activity. There is the possibility of it being the spirit of the woman who lived there before, just coming back to her home for a visit.
Imprint: An intensely concentrated pocket of energy at a site where an extremely dramatic event or events have taken place with such profound impact, that those events become part of the surrounding area. Along with the imprint comes emotions; fear, joy, sadness, etc... Imprints often include images of people and/or animals. These are not earthbound spirits, but are easily mistaken for ghosts. One thing that will always set an imprint apart from a ghost is that the imprint image will never interact with us. (They're sort of like a hologram.)
2. Bleed Throughs: Relatively rare experiences in which the past and present meet with such force that they actually "bleed" into each other and become one event. Bleed throughs can also occur between the dimension of earth and the Other Side. Bleed throughs are not a visiting spirit or a haunting.
I'm not saying your house isn't haunted or has a visiting spirit from time to time. I just wanted to let you know there are other possibilties for what your brother saw and your older daughter felt. If you do decide to try and communicate with whatever it is, be careful that you don't invite anything that you don't want. Do not use a Quija board. Try just asking if there is a spirit present, if she would like to be in your photo, and see what happens. If you would care to post your orb photo, please do so. Orbs can be tricky, and can be attributed to dust, moisture, or lens flare. Bascially, when looking at an orb, you want to see if it has motion and/or illuminates on its own. Good to have you with us at SK. I agree with Pate try talking with her but be sure to protect yourself first. There are many ways to do this. Some examples are saying a protection prayer, visualizing the house and everyone in it surrounded by white light to verbally saying only positive energy from the white light is welcome to reply etc. I always do some form of protection before I take pictures or run a recorder (even in my home). People have been lucky capturing what apprears to be a spirit voice while asking questions. I agree digital recorders are best especially if you want to put recordings on your PC, however if you have a tape recorder (with external mic) and a new (unwrapped) tape on hand you can use that as well. Ask a few questions (pause for awhile between each) and then let the tape run. Be sure to make note of noises in the room including any electronics on and ppl in the house etc. There's no guarantee you will capture anything even if there is an energy present but it's worth a try. I'm a Sylvia Browne fan (as is Pate) and have found her advice to be valuable. With EVP's she noted the hours of 3am-5am are often best so also let a recorder run in the living room while you sleep.
Would like to see your pic, if you care to share it. =) Everyone here is open and honest with opinions of pics submitted and feedback given can be helpful. Keep taking pictures and do ask, it does work. I always ask now and feel doing so helped me to capture a cpl moving and/or bright orbs in past.
Different ppl will feel odd sensations from a heaviness, creepiness, dizzy, headache or just vibes when walking in a place when something is present. If your daughter has not experienced this before it may be the feeling it gave her was unfamiliar so it felt creepy? Did your brother see the woman in exactly the same spot both times? If it was identical there is a chance as Pate noted she's an Imprint. Your bother may be more sensitive which is why he has seen her and you haven't yet?

I'm new here so I can't give any advice. Your experience is similar to mine. We are around the same age. I ahd never had any such thing happen to me either until I moved into a new house.
Be conscious of what happens when you start really remodeling or redecorating. I noticed that's when 'my lady" became very active.
Everybody on this Board is super sweet, and knowledgable. Hope you get to the bottom of this.

I have been in our library archives and have found the death notice for a woman who lived here for 40 some years, a spinster lady who loved children.(this is what it said in the notice)Given this info and knowing how comfortable my children and all my daycare children are with this house, I think our spirit is a good one.That is, if we have a spirit.
My brother is the only one who claims to have seen anything in this house. I do have pictures with orbs but I watched that medium on Montel Williams one day and she claims that orbs are angels and not evil, so that is definitely a good thing.
I have prayed for protection over my home and all who are in it and I do believe our spirit is also watching over her home. Thanks again, Nikola

Nikola, I would like to add one thing to the good advice the others have given...Pay close attention to your dreams. Spirits do communicate with us in our dreams. You may try keeping a dream journal to write down anything that seems significant, or relates to your home or someone you may not recognize.
My last home was built in the late 1920's and I had several odd things happen there and at a few other places I've lived. At the last house, I had several people tell me they had seen an elderly woman from the glass in our front door. I only saw something once, and it was in shadow.
However, I did have some odd dreams about a woman in 1940's era dress, who told me she was the ghost who played with the lights and that people kept seeing. I think she was appearing to me in the dream in her younger days, whereas when others would see her, it was as an elderly woman.
If there is a spirit who occasionally inhabits your home, it sounds as if she is a good, protective one. She may be attracted to the energy of the children, especially because she loved children during her life. Sounds like a good one to have around! =)
