From reading the many post here and on other discussion sites there are quite a few people who have had some kind of strange experience; an encounter with a ghost or whatever.

Sometimes I think such a thing would be cool, but if it did it would probably quite unnerving. So to those of you who have had such experiences was it necessarily terrifying or ever fascinating?

I have never had such experiences and can't be sure of how I would react.

Some of my experiences have been unsettling but, not terrifying.

Most of the time, it has been more interesting to me than anything. The one time I saw a full apparition, I was more stunned that I actually saw her than anything.

My worst experiences were in a house I was renting in NJ. The house just gave me the creeps and I always felt nervous and unbalanced. For almost 4 years while I lived there, I had an overwhelming feeling of dread. A few people told me that a teenager had hung himself in the basement and that was the area of highest activity including unexplained music and things like that.

I am interested to hear how others have felt.

From what has happened to me, it is more interesting than anything. To finally see some sort of afterlife with your own eyes. However, if you let it get to your head, you could end up being paranoid about small things such as house noises and shadows.

Just remember, not every creak and every shadow is a sign of the afterlife. Keep your mind open.

I've had several weird experiences, but never really felt frightened except on two occasions. Most of the time, I was more curious than anything.

One, and I've told the story several times, was when I was in my late teens. My father was away on business, and my mother and I had a late night of watching tv and she fell asleep in my room. I woke up to find her being pulled horizontally off the bed and onto the floor. I was literally fighting to hold on to her, and the only way I can describe it, was that it would be like fighting someone under water, or against rubber. At the time, I was more fearful of her safety and didn't fully register what was going on.

The other time I was fearful was a few years ago, in the home we had before we moved here, a nice little 1920's cottage, across the street from a church. I was at the computer in the sunroom and it was like all hades broke loose. The house had a lot of windows, and someone/something was running around from outside knocking at them, the lights were flickering and the doorbell was ringing constantly, I was overcome with a sense of panic, which is unlike me. All of this was going on at once. No one was there, because I was quick enough, that I would have caught someone. I called James at work to let him know what was going on, and I got the heck out of Dodge! I drove to a relative's home, but leaving, I noticed a funeral going on at the church. We had several odd things happen at that house, but that was the only time I was really spooked.

Great thread idea Ghostdancer! This should bring out some interesting stories!

Like you, I haven't had much in the way of paranormal experiences, at least of the confirmable kind. Every place I've lived in has been of the unhaunted variety thus far. But when I am in a haunted place, I can "feel" them in the form of a disoriented sensation or goosebump sensation, so I can tell something's there, but I have yet to actually see or feel anything concrete in regards to the paranormal. But I look forward to the time that I do. I don't know how I'll react, but I'll probably be more excited than scared.

Actually, the apartment I'm staying in right now (since our house burned down), according to the owner, had paranormal activity a few years back when a certain tenant was living there. However, nothing has happened since, and I haven't felt anything there yet, so I have to figure whatever it was was attached to that particular tenant or her belongings, and moved out with her.

What I understand to be fairly common with the presence of a ghost or spirit is that the area or room that one is in will turn cold even in summer and a source of heat will not overcome the cold. I've heard and read of this quite often.

I think I've had a full array of emotions from my experiences. They have been (in no particular order) amusing, interesting, annoying, creepy, and a couple just plain terrifying.

I think everyones reaction is different. You can have the same exact situation and one person would be unbothered while the other is terrified. When I was living in an apartment with a roommate I had a hitchhiker follow me back from my grandfathers funeral in Thailand. Both me and my roommate were amused by the spirit. It liked to pull pranks and we both could take a joke, so it was I guess cool to have around. We had another person move in and when we told her about it, she was terrified. It took us a few hours to convince her that it wouldn't harm her. So as you can see it's all subjective.

I have had many different experiences including some that frightened and/or startled me. There are far to many to talk about them all so I'll only comment on a couple things. My first experiences that I know for certain were PN related happened when I was in my teens (bout 25yrs ago). Had I known then what I know now I would not have been as frightened by the things that occured then, in fact it would have been quite the opposite. Hearing and reading the spooky tales of others always puts that sense of yikes into things but in reality it's often not as Hollywood projects it to be.

Today I will get a sense of unease at times simply because I am not always certain if it's an earthbound causing things or a Spirit. I've experienced both. Having lived for years in a house with an earthbound I can honestly say that I was frightened by some of the activity, especially in the beginning. The most startling was when I saw the full apparition of our resident ghost. I felt afraid during the times I awoke in the middle of the night to find him standing at the end of my bed. I also didn't like it when he would turn the door knob of the bathroom door while I was having a bath (especially when I was home alone). It was an active house and although I got used to alot of things some of it always made me feel uneasy.

Spirit related activity, which I believe is mostly what we have had and continue to have here at this house, does not usualy cause the same uneased feelings. Not that I haven't been startled by it at times though. I mostly get a sense of comfort when I feel the presence of Spirits. There has been some activity here that reminded me of the earthbound activity of our last place so I guess the sense of unease I've had here is due to not kowing for sure if it's Spirit only. The feeling of being watched can be creepy when it's followed by additional activity. The cold spots I've felt have varied from whisps of cool air to solid undeniable cold spots. Overall though I am mostly intriqued by things that have happened and have never been terrified by it. I no longer fear death having experienced what I have.

As I mentioned, I've never had any paranormal experiences, but find it interesting the numbers of perfectly sane and rational people who have.

Some family members of mine have though; my grandmother once told me many years ago when she was a little girl she heard some voice tell her not to go down into the basement of some building. She believed the voice was that of her mother who had died.

A cousin once told me she was staying overnight at the home of a friend and was sleeping on the floor when she awoke to see some man standing over her which she believed was a ghost.

I'm with Kevin,...great thread GD!
I haven't had anything really shocking happen to me,...the events that have occured I can explain,...at least, to myself. The only odd things were when the TV turned itself on once and our house called itself on the telephone. The phone rang and my roomie looked at the caller ID and it was OUR telephone number. Oh, and maybe someone calling my name a hand full of times.
Look forward to reading more posts!!! =)

I remember being intrigued by what was going on during my experiences. There have been a couple, though, were I was frightened to the point of anger. I know that sounds strange, but when I become extremely scared, I also become very angry.

One incident was at college. Some fellow students were playing with a Oui-Ja, and contacted an entity that identified itself as BMW. It started out friendly (as usual), but quickly turned nasty, and started spelling out hateful things. They kept telling it to "go to goodbye", but it would not. An extremely uneasy feeling came over me, and I got mad. I stood up, and yelled (in the loudest, deepest, and most masculine voice I could must) "I command you to leave this place and never return"! It went to goodbye and we never heard from BMW again.

Another time, I was spending the nigfht at my parents house, while they were out of town. It is a relatively new house, with no records of death or paranormal experiences that I know of. During the night, I was awoken by lots of banging and creaking in the attic, directly above the room I was in. After my eyes adjusted, I could see a "black form" in the corner near the ceiling. I said "please stop and let me sleep". I closed my eyes, and it started up again. I sat up and yelled "I said knock it off"!!! It then stopped and has not happened since.

I still do not know what to make of experiences like this. I would never have believed that ghosts would respond to commands, but they seem to. Perhaps because they were once people, and could sense my aggitation. Or maybe I am just lucky that they didn't decide to kick my butt!! LOL
