Do you currently or have you ever worked for a major big name company?

I was employed for six years with National Semiconductor before they closed their facility here 13 years ago.

Sorry no I haven't. There isn’t much around here unless I go to Toronto. Anyways, I prefer to stay as a country bumpkin. [Nutty] [Laughing]

I'm not sure what you mean by big name company, but I have worked for Lucky's which is now Albertsons which is a large grocery chain. Why do you ask?

Hi Ghostdancer,

I have worked 14 years with one and 21 with another Fortune 500 company's and just started 3 months ago with a third.
My companys didn't close though.
I did feel firsthand though when a company just pulls out. My company had Lear accounts and it was like overnight they just told thousands of people you no longer have a job. I also understood that no jobs, moving, etc was offered to these workers either.
I have always worked for the large corps, but why did you ask? Curious George here!

I worked for Qwest (aka US West/Mountain Bell) for 31 years. I have been retired since 1992. I have been non-management, but was management most of that period. I worked in central office equipment engineering, and my specialty was power system design and project management during equipment installation. I travelled around AZ a lot, and had more responsibilities than I can count. I wouldn't work for another large corporation again. They are pennywise and pound foolish, and the one I worked for could care less about their employees, in most cases.

Those are my thoughts, Ghostdancer, about my experiences. Are you looking at working for another large corporation? If you do, please choose wisely! =) Good luck to you!!

Best,

Mare

Just thought it would be a good topic for discussion.

No, I'm not looking to work specifically for a big company; I did interview for a job yesterday with a business that's bigger then I thought.

Um, yes, One of the biggest. Has it's global arms spread across the planet.

I have a confidentiality contract limiting me on what I can say about my employment in different situations. Let's just say the stuff we make works well in big vacuums.

The pay is good, but the stress is bad. I wouldn't suggest working for a big company. Not that some small companies are better.

If it wasn't for the pay and the excellent 401 we have I would be more active in searching for another job somewhere else.
