Hello all, this is my first post so hey! Why not bring something interesting to the table?
I was over at a friend of a friends' place and we were all looking at photos.
This one photo caught my eye. I don't know much of the background about this photo, other than it was taken just before a rave party somewhere in Ontario's wilderness heheh
What do you all think? Ectoplasm? Portal? Photo error?
I have a larger TIFF image available if someone wants it as well.

Very interesting photo! I'd like to see the larger version; you may email it to me. I definitely would like to have a closer look at this one. Also, if you have any comparison photos that were taken in approximately the same spot, send those along too.

It's so much fun to look at pics like that. =) I don't know what that is but it is interesting. Usually when a flash is used I lean towards glare and that sort of thing but it's so large I just don't know. I think that comparison pics would be helpful, if you have them. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I would email it to you but unfortunately it's about 24 MB in size. I will include a link at the bottom of this message for it though, and will host it on my web server for you.
As for alternate shots, this was the only one with a (readily visible) anomaly. Next time I see my friends, I will do a closer inspection of the pictures to see if I can spot anything else. If you'd like this re-scanned at an even larger DPI, I will gladly do it for you! 600 DPI is already pretty high though heheh

From my point of view, I've eliminated it as a flash problem almost definitely (I'm somewhat of a photographer myself =) I didn't take this picture unfortunately though). If it were a moving reflective object drawing a pattern on the film, it would have to be moving at something close to a 200th of a second (or faster) to register a shape that large, and nothing that is in the scene could have created the shape. It would have created an origin bright-spot if it was a light reflection, and the pattern passes over the girl on the left, so it couldn't possibly come from behind her. If it was the handle on the car, it would have made somewhat of a horizontal arc if it was driving by fast (again, not knowing the context of the car, I don't know if it was still or in motion).
Anyhow, just passing on what I know =)

Amazing pic! My first thought was that it was possibly a camera strap, but given how solid it is and how it fades out towards the top, I don't think that is the case.
If it is a vortex, it is the largest one I've ever seen a pic of. Very interesting!

First of all, I cropped this pic in half, top and bottom. I adjusted contrast and sharpened. I'm not sure what this is. It's really solid-looking in the lower half in the center of it. I do see "bands," which can indicate movement of some kind. The top part it seems to be more transparent, and to me it does have a fog or mist appearance to it. I don't think it's a cam strap, but a hair is a possibility. Something paranormal is a possibility too, it's just really hard to say. Also, from what I've seen with vortex, they're usually shaped a little different than this, and many times, they have a "reddish" illumination or aura to them, (like a reddish glowing outline.) Here's the cropped versions to look at. Like I said, I don't know what it is, but it's interesting to say the least. Thank you for sharing. =)

I COMPLETELY forgot to mention that my friend and I saw a face and a hat, and it looks like some sort of black coat on. She just reminded me of it when I showed her the post. The reason I think it's something spiritual is my friend Cass is very tall (the girl on the left) and you'd be hard pressed to find someone taller than her (she's close to 6 feet tall) randomly walking behind her.
It shows best in the TIFF file for sure (as in the included crop, the green outline I provided may cover the perspective a bit), but if you look at the top of the hat, it covers the sign behind them partially.
Just some new evidence to see if it draws anything out =)

You're welcome, I think... lol As with almost all PN pics like this, anything we say is speculation. Did you have a before or after pic similar to this? Sorry I couldn't give you a more definite opinion. Like I said, it's an interesting pic, for sure. =)
