I've been watching the news closely for the last several days and knew the time was close when he decided to remain home rather than return to the hospital. The world has lost a truly extrodinary man, one that you did not have to be Catholic to appreciate. I hope his journey is beautiful as his spirit.

It is so sad to lose a man of his importance who radiated such love and kindness to humanity. He did so very much, and he will be missed by the world. I loved him, even though I am not Catholic, and I will always remember being close to 50 feet from him once when he passed near our house in a motorcade, headed for Sts. Simon and Jude Cathedral not far from us, where the Bishop of the Phoenix Diocese resided at the time. Silly, I know, but it was a special thing to be so near to near his motorcade. A very large cross in front of the Cathedral was used for decor at the ASU stadium for his visit. It was very special to have it moved to a place so near our area. I suspect that cross is now a place used as a memorial for placing flowers and candles.... we need to drive by and see.

The world has lost a compassionate and loving man.

I couldn't agree with you all more. Although I am no longer Catholic, you don't have to be to appreciate everything that this man has done. He was a truly amazing individual with a wonderful spirit.

I too couldn't agree with you all more. I too have been watching the coverage closely and have been greatly moved by it all. This extraordinary man was an amazing person who touched millions of people. A truly beautiful spirit who not only did much for humanity but reminded us what Love is. He will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace.
