Hi Spirit! Good questions. Here is what I think. Ghosts are still people, and everyone is different. Maybe their personality was so strong that it projects their appearance. Or their life/death was so terrible that they continue to appear, repeating the events. Perhaps they are looking for something that was lost, or are seeking justice. Some scientists have suggested that it is the electricity that once ran our brains and bodies. It has to go somewhere at death, and could easily retain our "personalities". I am inclined to believe that theory.

Unfortunately, there are no definite answers. No one really knows the facts. It's all still speculation. [Wink]

As PCE said no one knows for sure. But one theory (for some part of their faith system) is that we have several bodies. All but your physical body survive after death. These bodies still retain the shape and look of your physical body. But they loose that shape over time. Which could explain why some ghosties look human and others are only partial apparitions. Spirits (non-corporeal beings that only visit this plane of existance) make their appearance at will. Some people see these visiting spirits who take on the form of a human body and think they are ghosties. In my experience they dress rather oddly. You really can't place them in a particular time period and they are awefully detailed. Ghosties become less and less detailed over time since the shape of their remaining bodies loose the memory and energy of this world.
Again, this is what some people believe. This fits my experiences and works well for me with those experiences. No own knows for sure. At least who is around to tell us about it... muuuuulahahahahahaha!!! . =)

Hi Spirit:

Sylvia Browne explains this really well in several of her books. I state this often in responses, because a lot people think ghosts and spirits are the same. They are not... Spirits are those that have moved on, crossed over into the white healing light, and they come back for visits. Ghosts, are those who for some reason, do not cross over into the healing white light, and they are trapped here. By not crossing over, they retain all the emotional and physical characteristics which they had in life and are for the most part, miserable. That's why people see ghosts sometimes with the same injuries they sustained in life, appearance of clothes, etc... With Spirits, it's a little different. A Spirit will never harm you, as they are healed and whole from crossing over. They do visit friends and loved ones on occasion, and when they do... they will apppear in a form that is recognizable to you. They want you to know they are there and who they are and that they are okay. That's another theory about why ghosts and spirits appear as they do.

In my experiences I agree with Sylvia Browne. One difference though is that not all of these spirits are of poeple you knew, family, friends, etc.. . Sometimes they are other spirits. Well intentioned ones. I was visited more than once by one that I later found to be a rather famous spirit. I read about this male appearing spirit in a book after he had visited me. I never knew him in this life.

Yep Nakis, I agree. We also have spirit guides who visit, and others from what Sylvia Browne refers to as "The Hall of Records," and more. =)

Hi Spirit

When I have had visit dreams from loved ones that have crossed over they have appeared both as I last remembered them and sometimes as they were at a younger age. During a session with a medium I had last fall the description of the people that came through and what they were wearing was not only remarkbly accurate but even changed slightly if they were trying to convey a certain message. I also had a visit once from a man in a soldier's uniform (remarkable color and detail), that she explained to me was likely my Master guide as they often show themselves in some type of uniform or as warriors. I am a Sylvia fan as well and had the pleasure of seeing her when she was on tour lecturing about Visits from the Afterlife and as Pate noted she explains things very well. One of her comments has always stuck with me (not a quote just as I remebered her saying it during the lecute) If we believe that our souls/spirits survive death then why is it so hard to believe that we can continue to make contact once we've crossed over. She also talked about astral travel and how our spirits take regular trips and when we do our spirit maintains the form and appearance as the body we just left sleeping in the bed. Some people, including her, report seeing and recognizing other astral travelers while on a journey.

I agree Nakis not all spirits that visit are family or friends. Along with guides as Pate noted we can have visits from those we are linked to from past lives as well. Nakis I wonder if maybe your famous visitor was either someone you knew in a past life (if you believe we come here more then once) or one of your spirit guides now?

I consider that if everything is energy and our spirit is a very powerful one, it makes sense to me that it/we are capable of transforming that energy as need be once it has shed the body that constricts it. To quote Nakis "no one knows for sure" but I too am content with some of the theories and explanations out there. One day though each of us will know for sure and have all the answers. =)

Hey sarah... it can happen... because when I saw my dad, he was just as he was on earth.... he was just like he was alive... i really didn't understand it at first either, but I guess it's one of those things that you just have to go with.

I actually agree alot with what Sylvia Browne says and Im sure your library has some of her books that you can check out. I had a dream of some of my family members that had passed. One was my grandmothers sister and she appeared just like she was on earth. However my cousin who had died when she was 8 (I was 6) came to me all grown-up, I guess its up to them how they come to you. lol

Hi everyone,
I had to post, this is something I also have wondered about over the years. Personally (if anyone has already said this LOL sorry!) I beleive its somewhere in between how they want to appear to you up to sometimes where your mind is.
I have seen my father older, in his flannels and workpants and seen him just as he had looked all dressed and ready for church when I was a young child. My Mom is always much younger.
Maybe is has something to do with what our minds will accept? And possibly what our loved ones who have passed want to be?
But especially my Dad. I feel that when he comes to me looking older......its at times that have been rough, sick children, illness, the bad times. And when I have seen him appear much younger, seems there is no terrible stress at the time? It is almost as if it is to comfort me.
Does anyone else feel this way?
Well, that's all. It is what I beleive.
Have a great day all!

I agree Peg, I think our loved ones are able to show themselves differently depending on what they feel may be most accepting to us at the time. It likely also depends on what may be happening with the us at the time of the visit. With your Dad perhaps he appears during troubled times as he was when he was older as a way of saying I'm still here with you just as I would be if I were still there? If we all are around the 30ish mark on the other side no matter what age we were when we crossed over (as ppl like Sylvia etc have said) then it makes sense that sometimes loved ones appear to us that way as well, for it is as they are now.

Sorry to repeat myself from my previous comments but one day we will all have the answers to questions like these and much much more. =)

Hey all!

This is a very interesting topic and one I'm sorry I missed the first time around. I have to agree with what you all have said. I am also a huge Sylvia Brown fan. My Mother in law had gotten me one of her books years ago for Christmas. I forget the title...but everything that she was saying about the after life just made so much sense.

I still question...but I think that's just the sceptic in me. I think there's a little bit of that in everyone.

I don't really have anything to add....I think everyone else has hit the nail on the head...just wanted to make comment.

Trin =)
