Well, I received a summons for jury duty in the mail. Just wondering how many of you here have ever served on a jury and what did you think of it?

I served on the last two times I was called and actually found it pretty interesting.

I received a summons for jury duty last year for the first time and I had to turn it down because of my hearing loss. I wish I could sit in, some say its boring and some say it's fascinating to see the whole court systems.

I received a summons for jury duty once. I SO did not want to be there. My group was called into the court room...all I could think was, please don't pick me....please don't pick me. I ended up not getting picked...but after hearing the case I had kind of wished that I was. It ended up being a pretty interesting case, one that I definitely would have wanted to know the out come.

I think if I where to be summoned again...I might feel a little differently about going now. I still think they should pay you more though LOL!

I've only been summoned once. It happened to be for federal jury duty in Cincinnati, which is about 3 hours from me. Everyone I talked to said I'd never get out of it, that I"d have to go. I must have wrote the best "poor pitiful me" letter ever because I got a phone call a week later excusing me. It's not that I didnt' want to serve, I'd be more than happy to locally. It's simply that I had no way to get there, no one to watch my child and no way to finance my trip there. The offered to reimburse everything but being a full time student and a part time server that just wasn't going to work lol. We've had some really interesting cases around here lately, maybe they'll call me and I'll get to find out what really happened =)

I haven't had to serve on a jury. I've been summoned 4 or 5 times and had to go in twice. Here they don't accept any excuses anymore, unless your dead or you have a very good doctor's note, and they will only pay you $5 a day, starting on the second day. The last time I had to sit through Voir Dire, but, as an extra, I couldn't have served on that jury anyways. I personally hate jury duty and have no desire to sit on a jury. Obviously if I have to then I have to make the best of it but all the same I'd rather not.

I've only been summoned once, and I was out of town. At the time, James and I were engaged and he picked up my mail and found the notice. Luckily, he notified them that I was not available and would not be back for several days and they excused me.

James served several times, the last of which was several years ago on a child molestation case. They threw the book at the guy. James said it was difficult to watch the little girl testify, but the process itself was interesting.

He said one thing he really noticed is that often, normally fairly intelligent people have brains that turn to mush during trials like this. One of his fellow jurors, an older gentleman James has known all his life had difficulty believing that the man on trial could have physically assaulted such a small child. One of the female jurors volunteered to show him -- on himself. (This very naive fellow was from a rural area, very church-going and had never been exposed to absolute scum in his sixty some odd years. He had never been around much and literally couldn't fathom an adult doing something like that to a child.) Eventually, the creep was found guilty and received the maximum sentence, which he so richly deserved.

I served on a jury the last two times I was called and actually enjoyed it; in fact I'd rather do that then go to my job. What my employer does is typical. They have you turn in your jury pay and essentially give it back to you along with the difference in the wages you make for the days you missed work while serving.

I'm going in on a Tuesday which is my day off so nothing's lost there; if I don't get selected to serve on a case that day I don't get called again for at least 12 months. That's how they work it here.

Hi one and all I feel I must post here about this. I am marys other half and I am just posting a line about this. I got a shot to do if and it was a shock to me. This guy took 350.00 bucks from his boss . It was to buy a gm truck that was smashed in the back. He just needed the motor. This guy told him that he would pick it up over the weekend. Well after the weekend the guy said what cash that was back pay. After we hit the room to vote man was I stuned to see how the vote came out. After 1 hour of talking too all of them I got 4 of them to move over to my side. But I lost all hope when I asked if they would print out what they had on tape . Because some of the people said it was hard for them to make out. Well they said no we had all that we needed to vote. The cops had the boss call this guy back on the phone and offer his job back if he would make payments for the cash he took. He said yes and he said how sorry he was about taking the cash! Yes you are reading it right. But the spin that there side put on was very good. You have to look very close at what is said. This guy was able to walk because his wife who works in the D.A. office asked a cop how they should work this . So it must be a cover up ! And the tape must be a fake that the cops made for her. Now I asked if it was a fake how come they did not bring in a guy to say it was a fake. Everyone just looked at the floor. But it was still a fake just ask anyone lol.But I could not get a copy so it was a fake !! lol. And the cop who did the tape was called to the stand to. The best of the deal came at the end. The DA asked us to stay for a min. When he asked us what he could of done to make us vote the other way everyone poked a finger at me and said ask him !! lol. As they ran past him !! One lady said you can not buy a truck for 350.00 bucks because here husband said so! This was like in the 80s and you still can buy a motor for that today. So good luck to all!! Marvin

I have been called 3 times for jury deuty. They never seem to use me due to my dispatching background and the fact that I have 3 cops in the family.

Always found it to be a pain to have then send me the form only to not want me on a case.
