My daughter works in a very old mental hospital. It is known to be haunted. She has seen shadows moving down the hallways and in the patients rooms for the past year that she has worked there. What is everyone's thought about this?

Could it be an optical illusion from lighting? I always try to rule out natural explanations before assuming anything is paranormal.

If not, it could be what is known as "shadow ghosts", or it could be that the energies do not have quite the strength to manifest as anything but "blobs" or shadowy masses. I think any hospital type facility would have seen its share of human tragedy and strong emotions. The energy from that becomes imprinted in the location and could be manifesting in this way. Is there phenomenon other than the shadows? Anything with electrical malfunctions, unidentified noises, other things that are odd or out of the ordinary?

Carrie, Oh yes. There's all kinds of things happening at the hospital. Some times they can see a little girl walking down the hall and go into a patients room. One time an RN saw the little girl and he never came back. He quit that night! ha! I think they have a spirit that is a real prankster! He/She likes to make their name badges fall off around their neck.

Creepy! Especially about the little girl. My aunt worked in a nursing home and she said one floor was definitely haunted. She never went into details, some day I'll have to pry them from her.

That is very interesting! I had my own experience at a hospital. I had gone in for surgery, when I was twelve. It was a fairly serious surgery and I was there for 2 or 3 weeks. Anyway, shortly after my surgery I woke up to find my bandages had fallen off my head. I called a nurse but no one responded. o I got up and walked out of my room looking for someone to help me. And then out of no where a nurse was helping me. Taking me back to my bed. I remember that she had one of those hats on... Anyway, she took me back to my bed, and said she get someone to help me. I was only 12, I didn't think "Well why don't you help me, you're a nurse..." A few minutes later another nurse came in, and I asked her who was the other nurse and she said, there was no one else but her at the moment.
It was only years later that I heard on the news that there was a reported "ghost nurse". It kinda spooks me out now, but at the time, it was so ordinary.

I worked in a nursing home that was quite active. I was the only one who would work the overnight shift because of it. The nursing home had 2 wings to it. The one wing was healthcare and the other was assisted living. I worked in the assisted living side. We used to dim the lights in the halls at night so, if anyone came out of their apartments, they weren't blinded but, could still see. When you worked the overnight shift, you had 4 floors that you were responsible for. Since the elevator made so much noise, I would take the stairs a lot on my rounds. There were always shadows in the stairs. Occasionally, I would hear doors slamming in the stairway and there was nobody there and a few times, I felt like someone took my arm as I was going down. Never felt threatened, I always felt like whoever it was still was looking for help. We had a few residents who would talk about the woman who would knock on their door. One resident said there was a knock on her door and another resident asked her where the dining hall was. The creepy thing about it was that the woman who knocked on her door had died the night before.

I don't doubt that a building with history has a lot of activity. Maybe like my ghost, the shadows are people looking for help.
