My husband works for a company that owns a large, upscale RV park that caters to affluent, older people. Several months ago, just a few yards from his office a brutal murder took place. An elderly man shot and killed his wife, daughter, son-in-law and 15 year old grandson. The day it happened, I even had an odd experience that I posted about regarding the incident.
The home sat vacant for several months, but I noticed this week it had just been put up for sale.
I had gone to James' office to meet him for lunch with our 2 1/2 year old, Brianna. James and I had not been talking about the place or the incident. In fact, I can't recall ever mentioning the incident in front of Brianna. As we drove by the house, Brianna blurted from her car seat, "Mama, I don' like dat 'pooky place."
The only time she may have even heard the word "spooky" would have been from "Scooby Doo." I ask her if the house bothered her and she said "Yes. Mama, go the other way!" She actually seemed to be physically uncomfortable. I've got to admit that I find myself physically shuddering whenever I go by the house.
I know we've had discussions on the board before regarding children and what they sense and see, but this incident really illustrated it for me. We're extremely careful about what Brianna sees on TV and she isn't around other kids very much and when she is, she is supervised closely. So, I know this wasn't anything she picked up from anyone else. Just thought it was an interesting little incident.
