I'm starting a small business and need some help on a name. I'll be making and selling children's clothing with hand-painted touches along with ladies' painted handbags. Most of the merchandise will be $50-$150, targeted mostly for small boutiques and the occasional high-end craft show. I've got to come up with a name for the business, so I can have tags made and all the other business related stuff, but I'm stumped. It needs to be something cute, original and creative. Any ideas?

Why didn't I take some marketing classes in college?!

What sort of design's will they be? Will you have a theme that will be your specialty?

Renee, it will mostly be little girl's dresses. Some will be cute, casual but still dressy outfits like capris with matching tops. I've got one design that I really like of a set that has a white and black polka dot print with a reverse print as a ruffle. I've painted a circle of bright pink roses around the edge of the top and a few along one leg of the capri. It's trimmed with bright pink ribbon.

I've also got some that are more "dressy". Little girl dresses made from dupioni silk with cascades of flowers on the skirts and bodices.

The handbags will be in various sizes, and are more whimsical -- painted florals, fairies, animals, holiday themes, etc...trimmed with beaded fringe or marabou feathers.

Not a lot of ruffles and lace on anything, but still very feminine without being too cutesy or frou-frou.

I don't know how many women I've talked to who complain they don't like the children's clothes they find in stores and don't want their little girls looking like little Britney Spears clones. The clothes I'm working on are kinda a counter to that.

Those are all really cute -- I like Bri's Garden too! Ladybugz Designs and Girly Girls are cute too. All the suggestions are good. I'll have to run some of them by James. He had a lot of marketing classes but is as creative on stuff like this as a glass of milk. Thanks for the help guys!

I too like Bri's Garden and Girly Girl's. Will put the thinking cap on and see if anything comes to mind. You have very good inner instinct Carrie so I'm betting whatever name you do decide on will be the perfect one. Wishing you much success with your new business!

Hugs, Cat =)

I like Bri's Garden too. Or go with her full name. Brianna's Garden.

I feel like apologizing for this one. (the Cids part).

And thanks for making cloths for kids that aren't Brittany spears clones clothes. I understand the mindset but....

Congratulations Carrie on the new business! Hmmm as far as names go......I am stumped myself right now. But I love Bri's Garden, or even using her full name. I also like the Garden Cascade Designs. It has a nice flow.

If I come up with anything I'll post! =)

Good job, guys! Let me know if anyone thinks of more.

I'm leaning right now towards Brianna's Garden. My only hesitation with it is if we adopt another little one, she may feel disgruntled that Mom didn't name the business after her. [Laughing]

I read a story recently about a woman who started her business this same way and in 5 years owned 2 factories. Now, when I get to that point, I'm hiring all of you as my Creative Assistants! [Wink]

Hi Carrie,

I have heard of many stories like that where a small home business ends up being much more then that. I think going in with the positive attitude that it will grow into that for you is a great attitude and vision to have. =)

Thought maybe I would add a little something else to this. I have been very interested in numerology for some time now and continue to be amazed on the accuracy behind this system. One of the things I have read/learned in my self study is that when you are considering the name for a new business it's best to ensure the number value of the name is one that is a natural match or compatible with your life path number. Not sure if that is of interest to you but if so it can't hurt to consider that when deciding on the name.

Hugs, Cat =)

Cat, I don't know a lot about numerology. How is a life path number determined? Is it a number that crops up in one's life frequently?

Hey Carrie, the life path number is determined by your date of birth: month day and year you total the numbers and reduce to a single digit. Yes actually it is fairly common to see your life number pop up more often then some of your other numbers. It can be everything from key dates, hotel rooms, phone numbers, your address, birth dates of people close to you, special occasions etc etc (again you always need to reduce any numbers you are working with to a single digit). I'll send you a bit more info and the numbers for some of the names suggested as I worked them out already. =)
