Hi, everyone! I'm new here, and I have a question for you. How do you find a legitimate psychic to guide you or help answer perplexing life questions? I've been struggling for a long time with relationship stuff, and I recently consulted 2 psychic guides, who gave me totally opposite readings. Here's how it went:

Psychic #1: This man I'm so strongly drawn to is my future husband (speaking in terms of probabilities, she said). I didn't tell her anything about him.

Psychic #2: I told her this man is over 20 years older than me, and she said that she just doesn't see me with him. Then she said, "Don't you think he's a little too old for you?"

My personal opinion is that #2 is a total fraud, and she was making a judgmental remark about our age difference. But I don't know that I can trust #1 either.

Any suggestions for how to find someone who could actually help me??? Thanks!

Hi Lily,

There's no easy answer to this. First off, I have to say that it doesn't sound like either psychic that you went to was all that good, or maybe just weren't the ones to read you, #1 was way too definite- she may have been telling you what she thought you wanted to hear, and #2 I have to agree with you on her.

I've never been to a psychic and don't have any desire to do so, but I do have some thoughts on how to find one. What is it that you hope to accomplish by meeting with a psychic, and what sort of reading is it that you want- tarot cards, holistic healing, medium, just sit down and talk, astrology? These things are going to be very important on finding the right one for you. I personally wouldn't trust anybody who claims to know my future and I certainly wouldn't make a big decision based on what psychic said. But if your having trouble with relationships perhaps a psychic can tell you something to help you figure out why. I look at it rather like seeing a therapist, they don't have the answers, but maybe they can find a clue to help you find the answer- I feel that there are so many bogus psychics out there that this is the safest attitude to have when going to see one.

As for actually finding one, I would go to your local Metaphysical bookstore and ask for a recommendation there. They should be able to help you. Remember, it's good to have and open mind, but you should also keep some skepticism. Don't give out specific information, such as: instead of asking about a boyfriend keep it to just relationships in general and see if the info given to you relates to any of your family and friend as well as a boyfriend. From what I've seen and read real psychics aren't going to want specifics from you, they want to give you the specifics and have you validate them to make sure they're on the right track.

Good luck with your search. I do hope that you find what your looking for.

Thanks, Renee. I agree that a real psychic shouldn't need specifics from me, because they could read things without knowing that. I tried to keep info from the first psychic, but I wasn't as careful with the second one. That's partly because she was trying to do numerology, and she asked me for our birthdates (which I wish I hadn't given her, in hindsight). I have to say that I don't believe in numerology, anyway, so I don't know why I went along with that.

I have to agree with Renee that a legitimate medium will usually not ask you for a ton of information, but will give you the info and ask for validation. One thing that I have always found (not that I have been to too many psychics) is that, if it feels hokey then it usually is. So definitely go with your gut feeling.

Good Luck Lilygirl, and do let us know if you have any luck!

Hi,

One of my problems with numerology is that if it were true, that would imply that everyone born on the same day is exactly alike, and I'm sure that's not how it is.

I'm not sure what i believe about psychics, and what they can or can't do to help. On the one hand, I can appreciate the idea that the spirit world can't or shouldn't interfere with our decisions. But on the other hand, there are many, many people out there who have followed their gut instincts and ended up much happier in life, who strongly believe that those gut instincts were the result of tuning in to spiritual guidance. This idea basically says that spirit guides are there to help us know our true desires, because that can be really hard to do in these complicated times. In my case, there's a lot of confusion between what I really want and what I think I SHOULD want, or what I DON'T want, in terms of hurting others. That's the sort of thing I've been looking for help with, but I haven't found it yet.

I've been trying to meditate for a long time, but I can never quiet my mind enough. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get started doing that? Thanks!

Lily

Hello Lily,

I've recently started meditating myself. At first I too had a hard quieting my mind to the point where I could just relax and still do at times. One of the things that I have found that really works for me is concentrating on my breathing. This comes from Pilates, you take 5 slow counts to inhale, and 5 slow counts to exhale. I actually count in my head, which keeps me from thinking about other things. After a few deep breaths I find that I can stop counting to myself...but I can keep my mind clear as well.

The one thing to remember is, it's very normal for your mind to start to wander. When you notice that this happens, just take a deep breath and begin again.

Another thing that can help is to concentrate on a certain thought or idea. Maybe something that you're having a difficult time with. When doing this though, do let your mind wander, trying to keep it within the range of that one thought or idea...and see if you get any kind of insight. Sometimes this helps to give yourself a different perspective on a situation.

I'm by no means an expert, but like I said, I have been meditating lately and these are some of the tips that I found to be very helpful. There is a ton of information out there though to give you different ideas. You'll eventually find what works for you.

Good Luck!

Trin =)

I have definitely found it to be very helpful. I am one of those types of people that find it hard to slow down sometimes. By meditating, I am forced to slow down and take some time just for me. I don't do it as much as I should and would like to start making it a daily practice. It's become very helpful in controlling stress as well.

It doesn't have to be done for long periods of time either. I teach a pilates class, and at the end of every class I have my students lie in the floor comfortably and we just concentrate on our breathing. I tell them not to think about anything else, and suggest doing the 5 counts in 5 counts out breathing. We only do this for about 3 sometimes 4 minutes, but when we're done someone always comments about how great and refreshed they feel. That's all it takes.

If you're having a hard time keeping your mind clear for longer periods of time...start with just 5 minutes and work your way up.

Hi Lily,

I agree a psychic or medium should not have to ask you any questions at all to do a reading. I have found word of mouth is the best way to find a reputable one as they don't need to advertise as reputation does it for them. I had a wonderful experience with a medium I found via word of mouth. I had to wait nearly 6 mths to get an appointment as she only does two readings a week. She becomes quite drained from the sessions as they last 2-3 hours in length. When I called to book the only info she required was my first name and ph number so she could call a cpl days before the reading to confirm and obtain my address (she does the reading in your home). Actually she insisted I say nothing further. She also requested no other family members be home at the time if possible. Once here she opened by explaining to me what she does and that I only nod but say nothing if she asks for validation, in other words if I understand the message or what it is she is saying. Because she simply says what she sees or rather what spirit is showing her she often doesn't know what the meaning of the message is which is why she asks do you understand. The validations, descriptions and info provided were amazing. I also had a great experience with a psychic who refused to accept anything for her readings as to her this was a gift she was given to be shared and not something to gain profit from. She also asked no questions through out the reading but at the end did allow for me to ask a couple of questions of her however I was to think them only and not say them out loud. There was no time set to how long the reading would be as she allowed the information to be shared as long as she was recieving it. These women do not make a living from their abilities but use them with the intent to help others. It is easy to be a fisher and unfortunately many out there who claim to be psychics or mediums are just that.

I am not a numerologist but have spent some time studying it as I became intriqued by it. Because you have the same birth date as another doesn't mean you are exactly alike but rather you share the same life path number. Your birth date along with your name (which is given numeric value) provide several numbers that are needed to do a chart. Your combination of numbers and the meaning that each hold along with how each of these numbers affects the other is what comprises your info. So even though you have the same birth date as someone doesn't mean you are exactly alike as your combination of numbers and where they fall within your primary numbers will not be the same. Unless you share the exact same name (currently used), plus the same name on your birth certificate (exact spelling) and birth date as another, then it's a safe bet you are very much alike. The number system is a very old system and not at all the same as a psychic reading as it does not give you predictions. I hope that helps a bit? As I say I am not a numerologist nor claim to be one just someone who is intriqued by it and has spent quite a bit of time learning about it.

Meditations is a great way to clear the mind and waken your inner voice. Trin has given some great tips on how to get started. There are also some good tapes out there that help guide you through the meditation process that can be helpful as it can take some time to train oneself to tune everything out (including our thoughts).

Good luck with your quest to find a reputable psychic and with doing meditation. Cat =)

Hi, Cat,

I love your signature message, "Cats are just undercover angels." You don't know how true that is! =)

I wish I could find a psychic/guide like the ones you mentioned. I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering what part of the country you're in - I'm on the east coast. I've been to a medium (the first psychic I mentioned in my earlier post) for 2 sessions. Some of what she said to me was dead-on accurate, but then other stuff (like some of the relationship issues) was questionable. I don't know how she could be so right about some of it, seeing things she couldn't possibly have known, and then seem to make things up for the other stuff. If she wasn't seeing anything about the man situation, I think she should just tell me that she's not getting any messages about that -- not just make something up, or tell me what I want to hear.

I actually said that to her, when she told me that the "probabilities" tell her that this man is my future husband, and that she sees that his issues are the same as mine, which is probably why we've been brought together. I said that she didn't need to say what she thought I wanted to hear, because there are too many obstacles in the way for me to believe that he could be my future husband. She said, "I don't know what you want to hear -- I'm just saying what I see." So while the truth is that I'd like to believe her, I still think that on some level, she was telling me what I wanted to hear.

So I've been looking for a psychic "2nd opinion", so to speak. The 2nd person I went to (via phone) was a total fraud, regardless of the potential usefulness of numerology. She's just scamming people, it was obvious in the first 5 minutes. What a waste of money! So I'm back to trying to find someone else, only I don't know where to look.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. That gives me hope that there are good people out there, I just haven't found them yet.
