I was going through some boxes in the basement to clean up some things we salvaged out of the house, and lo and behold, I found my Aiwa minidisc recorder! I thought it was gone. I lost the microphone and charger for it, but I discovered a charger that came with a Sony CD Walkman I also salvaged was compatible, and I was able to charge the recorder and it still works! [Jump]

This is the recorder I used to get the "screams" and "footsteps" recordings at a friend's house last summer.

I grabbed a Sony MD recorder on eBay which I've been using but it isn't as good as the Aiwa. So now I have 2. I just ordered a microphone and a booster, so hopefully that'll allow me to get better recordings in the future.

That's great Kevin! That's so neat that you found it in good working order. It's like getting an unexpected present. [Big Grin] It's a real bonus too that you could fit the Sony charger to it.

I got my microphone and mic booster in the mail today, so I ran some tests. Turns out my Sony MD is far more sensitive for mic recording than the Aiwa. In fact, the Sony without the booster is about the same as the Aiwa with the booster! I guess I know what unit I'll be using for EVP recording from now on. [Wink]

Actually, I'll probably order a 2nd mic and use it with the booster on the Aiwa, so I can have 2 recorders going at once.

Hmm... I should add "Gadget Freak" to my sig line! [Laughing]
