So much is said about the plight of the illegal immigrant, but not enough about the perils of those who live along the border such as the people in this article.

I wanted to thank you so much for sharing this article with us. I hope everyone here will read it and become more aware of our so called homeland security! [Confused]

I'm stunned and sickened by this.......

"We've all been warned to not even show a gun to an illegal," she says. "A woman here did that a while ago, just showed it, didn't point it, and the FBI came to her house and warned her not to do it again, because it's a federal crime to threaten an illegal."

Huh?????

Made me sick to read that; an illegal should have more rights then a citizen - to include a possible terrorist? [Mad] [Eek!]

I'm close to that area and there's some very nice country there, but can't feel safe going there. =(

Mexico is absolutely in chaos. I don't know if anyone else has kept up with the situation in Nuevo Laredo, but it is frightening. Anyone who opposes these drug cartels is disposed of. Their own police departments are turning the other way and cooperating with these scum because of fear of what will happen to them and their own families.

James and I had been there last year. Both of us are too old to party and our main interest was seeing a few sites in Laredo, eating some good food and picking up a few little souvenirs in the shops. We only went over the border during the day and only for a short distance.

Our last night at our hotel, which was right on the border, we overheard a conversation at the front desk of some family members and hotel staff of a young woman who had gone missing. She was never found. I can't remember the statistics off the top of my head, but a tremendous number of American tourists have been kidnapped and killed in this one little border town. Needless to say, we won't be going back for a while. I've always enjoyed going to Mexico and have since I was a small child; it just isn't safe now.

Our own government has tied the hands of people who try to do anything about the border situation and it does make me question some motives. We have the same stuff going on in Texas. I think they've finally caved in and decided to put the Texas State Guard on border patrol.

That article is 100% correct. My sister and her husband have a small cabin and hunting lease near a border town. They leave food, water and various other things in an outbuilding they leave open so that the cabin will not be broken into and ransacked. Coyotes of the two legged variety are bad, bad news. The illegals they bring across are not treated humanely and the coyotes believe and in some cases are, above the law.

Bottom line, we've got to do something about the border issue. I don't have a problem with an honest person trying to come over to start a new life and better their situations. I do have a problem with violent criminals, terrorists and drug dealers, and that looks like what we are primarily getting.

No Ghostie, we sure dont want you making a trip there and something bad happening to you! =(

Carrie, how sad your sister and her husband have to cater to those nasty, hateful people just to keep their home safe.

AND how odd it is to me that we are sending our people to war in another country to make a better life for them when our OWN people here are enduring these hardships, living in fear, and many eventually giving up their homes due to the lack of protection!!

There have been some reports of armed soldiers from the Mexican Army crossing over. Can't comment on the accuracy of those, but who knows who all is involved with smuggling drugs across the border.

Ghostdancer, I was reading this out to my husband. He has seen video of Mexican soldiers crossing our borders. If he can find the footage again, I'll post a link to it.

Hubby has done a little reading on this subject. From what he has been able to find out, a good number of Mexican special force troops have defected to join the drug cartels. Hence, some of the problems Nuevo Laredo and other border towns have experienced. These guys aren't amateurs. They have access to some pretty major weapons and are skillful. Scary, scary situation.

Cindy, I agree. We need to secure our borders and take care of our own country and citizens, first and foremost.
