I think this may be for real, why else would they guarantee it?

It's guaranteed to turn itself on without you wanting it to? I think he's just trying to push a defective TV on some gullible bidder. Assuming the TV actually does what he's claiming.

Haunted or not, defective or not, who's going to pay $500 (starting bid) on a 19" TV/VCR combo, that's missing a remote to boot? I think I can buy a brand new, unhaunted TV for $200 at Best Buy or what have you.

yeah, the set sounds like it is faulty, not haunted... even when you unplug a TV from the wall there is still electricity stored in capacitors inside of the set, this is how the instant on works with modern TV's... years ago you had to wait for the tubes inside of a TV to warm up before a picture would appear... it sounds as if the capacitors leaked a bit of juice after he unplugged it and it flashed on for a second. more than likely the capacitors are faulty and when he has it plugged in they leak electricity and cause the TV to turn on. just an educated guess but from what i know about TV's it's logical...

I work on computers and I know even unpluged it has plenty of juice and can come on. BUT If you press and hold the power button after you unplug it you can useualy get the juice out. Electricty is tricky.
