Through all the tradgedy which is our first thought for the people and and the animals, my latent thought is how much history was detroyed. I am wondering about the Myrtles plantation and Oak alley and all the other very historic places. I have never been to the Myrtles, but I did visit Oak alley and was over come with its beauty. I do know the river was right behind it. The people and animals are my first concern, but I can't help but wonder about the wonderful places as well. Has anyone heard anything?

Mary, I haven't heard any news about Oak Alley, I believe it was on the west side of N.O., so it may have been spared. The Myrtles, I believe, is quite a ways further west in St. Francesville and they should have been okay. The west side of a hurricane is the "dry side", so there is a good chance they did not sustain much damage.

Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis' home in Mississippi, was severely damaged. The Confederate museum in New Orleans was said to be fine, but the D-Day museum had been vandalized -- to what extent, I'm not sure. [Sigh]

Thanks Carrie, being so far up north its hard to keep all this together. I only see what is on tv and I haven't had much time for that either. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who lived or was affected in any way with this terrible tradgedy. I just hope they can rebuild it back. The people lost can never be replaced, but the can be remembered and honored for their courage.
