Hello Everyone,

I came across this site by accident and had no idea there was a name for controlling your dreams. I have always thought everyone could do this until recently. I have always loved to dream because its a nonstop adventure to me. I control who is there and what we do. I even get up to go to the bathroom and if it was a good dream I can begin where I left off before getting out of bed.

I do have a question. When I take naps I often am startled awake by what sounds like a LOUD doorbell in the room or in my ear. I have checked the front door on several occasions to remember my bell stopped working about a year ago! I keep a fan on in my room to block out any noises? What's going on? Does anyone know if this is a brain fart? It scares the poo out of me and ruins a perfectly good nap!

Well I'm not so sure it's a brain fart although I'm sure we have a few now and then both while dreaming and not. [Laughing]

I've read varied reasons why we sometimes hear loud noises (bells, clapping, buzzing etc) that jolt us awake and/or when we are just drifting off to sleep. There are the scientific theories that explain different functions of the brain with the how and why this may occur. I've also read that noises like bells, pops, bangs and even buzzing are related to astral travel. Another explaination discussed how it may relate to our spirit guides and the ways they get our attention in effort to communicate with us.

Astral travel was the version that spoke more of the louder type noises and it seems naps are fairly common times when ppl travel. Do you recall dreaming prior to this happening and if so what type of dreams are they?

I often get a buzzing in my ear as I'm drifting off and have been jolted awake at times (mainly when just dozing off) by a loud noise. Sometimes it's hard to tell if that noise was just in my mind or if it was coming from in the room. =)

I don't know much about the out-of-body experiences or the astral projection stuff, although I would love to know more. I've read about sounds and such when the spirit leaves or returns to the body and I've been awakened several times by odd loud noises. But I never remember the dream I was in or anything about it. However, I do recall one I had when I was a teenager.

First, a bit of background. The trailer I lived in faced the main highway. There was a T-intersection within sight. There were often wrecks here, and I was usually the one who reported them.

One night I dreamt that I was passing over this intersection. Not really flying per se, but more or less floating as if in spirit form. There was a wreck at the intersection and I was checking it out, telling myself I needed to get home and report this.

As I flew toward home everything started to fade and I heard what sounded like a very loud vacuum cleaner getting closer and closer. I jumped awake, my heart pounding as if I'd just been scared half to death. As my eyes focused I saw a flashing red glare reflecting off my wall. I looked out the window and sure enough, there was a wreck at the intersection and emergency crews on the scene.

I don't know if it was an OBE or whatever but it sure was freaky...

Another possibility is parts of your dreamstate makes the transistion to your waking state.
Sometimes things we experience in our minds appears to have an outside source to our conscious mind.
I've experienced it many times.
