That is truly weird. I've heard a lot about haunted dolls, but I've only had one personal experience with one.

Years ago when I was in college, I had a small business making porcelain dolls. I had started the hobby as a teenager and began selling them at local boutiques. For a while, I had gathered a good clientele and I would do custom orders for people. I eventually discovered I had a knack for doing portrait dolls, where I would take a photo of a person and use it to make a doll in their likeness.

At one point, I was approached by a lady to make a portrait doll of her child, who had passed on from an accident some years before. I took the photo to one of my suppliers, an elderly lady and her husband who were also dear friends of mine. They cautioned me about doing portrait dolls of people who had passed on.

My friend had also done these types of dolls many years back and had a similar request from a client whose children had passed on in a fire. After starting the doll, she had things happen like hearing child-like giggles and running little feet on her stairs. More happened, but she refused to tell me the whole story. She never made another portrait doll.

Sure enough, after I began working on the doll, I started experiencing odd things such as objects going missing, odd noises, etc... I always suspected it somehow involved the doll. I was certainly glad when the client picked him up.

Maybe a part of that child's soul was in the doll. Maybe they just came to visit because I was making something that resembled them and it piqued their curiousity. I don't know. I no longer do the portrait dolls, but I still do artsy things. However, I'm always a little cautious about doing any sort of portrait of someone who has passed on.

Thanks for making the thread GrimReaper. =) Did the store owner give you any history about the doll? It would be interesting to know where she came from, who her previous owners were etc. How old is the doll? Did he/she tell you the doll was believed to be haunted when you purchased it or did you discover it only after you removed the board? Was the board just used as a base of sorts or was it needed for the doll to stand? Sorry for so many questions here, just interested to know more, as I am anytime I hear stories related to dolls. Dolls have always given me the creeps, most of them seem to be looking at you and their eyes seem to follow you around. Perhaps it's the likeness of them that does it, it's like certain mannequins (sp?) they appear alive yet dead.

Where do you keep the doll, if you don't mind me asking, and is the activity you noted something that occurs at random or is it linked to moving of the doll etc? How often does this type of activity happen and have you ever thought to get rid of the doll? Does it have a negative energy about it? One last question, do you have a pic you can share by chance? Thanks for sharing this and again sorry for all the question, hope you don't mind answering them. =)

Carrie, that's an interesting story as well. Sounds like you have some real talent, I would love to see your work, I'm betting it's beautiful. =) Does make you wonder if the activity you and your friend both experienced was related to the dolls and if it was perhaps the spirit of the child visiting and giving signs? Gosh I want to cry just thinking about it. =(

Another thought is it may not be the spirit of the child at all but rather a negative entity that sees an opportunity to manipulate another. It would be easier to get someone to believe it's their loved one that is giving these signs in a situation like that. I know that's a horrible thought but some believe that negative entities will imitate someones loved one at times in effort to fool them, and using a doll that is made in their likeness would certainly help with this form of trickery. =(

Is anyone familiar with the Robert doll that is at the THe East Martello Museum & Gardens? The doll once belonged to Gene Otto. One version I read is it's suspected the doll once belonged to a bahamian girl who was the child of one of the Otto families servants. When the doll was made either a crystal was put inside it or it was made much like a voodoo doll is. It's reported the Otto's did not treat their servants well and were extremely strict and hard on the boy. Another version claims the doll was made by a Jamican woman whom the Otto family hired to be Gene's nurse. She had spent much time with the boy when his parents were off traveling. It's said that when she was dismissed she gave Gene the doll she had hand crafted. Gene had that doll with him constantly and would even set a plate for him at the dinner table. It's said that giggling, voices and foot steps could be heard from the attic area where the doll was later kept and in the rooms that Gene would often play with it. It was given the name Robert as that was Gene's real first name.

The doll it's now permanant home at the Museum and is said to be the cause of various activity. It's reported that ppl who try and take a pic of him will often find the pic blacked out while the rest of the pics in the roll remain untouched. Some say if you ask him to take his pic he will allow it and the pic is fine? It's also reported that if you don't stop to visit the doll while at the museum odd things may happen to you afterwards. One woman claimed she saw the shadow of the doll in her home and in her bedroom window after leaving the museum (she did not stop to see the doll). [Eek!] Some say the lion on his lap will change positions at times (he's kept in a glass display) and others report seeing a change in it's facial expression. Odd things also happen with electrical and electronic equipment. Strange indeed. Could it be possible that Robert has an entity attached to it? It sure sounds like there is, given the many reports of unusual activity that surround the doll both now and while it was in the Otto home.

Very interesting, Grim... do you still have any PN experiences with the doll? Cat, I saw a piece on the Travel channel about Robert the Doll. He is truly creepy and seems to be inhabited by an evil entity, to me; not just a ghost or spirit connected to him. He gives me the creeps and it takes a lot to do that. Here is a pic of him for those who haven't seen him. They sell Robert the Doll t-shirts and stuff too, but I for one, do not want one. [Ugh] lol

Thanks for posting the pic Pate. =) I'm with you no t-shirts, mugs or trinkets of any kind for me with Robert's likeness on them. I suppose the different items they have relating to Robert must sell ok considering they have more than just shirts with him on it. He is creepy to look at, odd vibes that's for sure. I enjoy my morning java to much to drink it from a mug with that mug on it. lol

wow that's really interesting! Also if you will forgive me for it, a little Evil Chuckie Doll type too lol. Objects and houses can take events of people living in them, dead or alive. If you go into a room that had a kind old lady that never did anybody harm, you might feel safe and peaceful in the room. If you were in a room that maybe someone was murdered in, you might feel hesitent and maybe even feel foreboading, even have the 'room' want you out.

Objects can be the same. Though it's less common in ones that the original owners didn't have. Like if a child held the doll and you held it, it may have an innocent feel etc. As for making the doll, sometimes there is a bit of the soul left. Sometimes even the spirit may choose to come visit. Ghosts always have an annoing habit of showing up at weird times. ^^
