Hi. I'm a newbie here, so I'm hoping that this is the correct forum for this kind of posting.

I work for a small company out of my bosses house. His HAUNTED house! None of the 4 employees are scared of the spirits there, they have always kept to themselves pretty much, and never have done anything except be a little mischevious.

But, there is always a but... my boss has been on vacation for the last two weeks, and a friend of mine from where I used to work stayed there to house sit the house and the little beagle. While he was there, he experienced the ghosts a LOT!

The very first night he was there, they took his towel off the towel bar, folded it up, and put it on the floor! They continued teasing him, turning on lights and turning down the furnace, moving glasses around, making noises, etc. He took that all in stride, talked to them, and everything seemed to be ok. He didn't even mind when they would shake the foot of the bed he was sleeping in or brush his arm while he was watching TV.

But last night was his last night there, and he isn't sure he wants to come back. He said at 2:30am, he woke up to something sitting on his chest. He tried to open his mouth to tell it to go away, but he couldn't get his breath to do so. It wasn't until he started praying that the heaviness left his chest and he could catch his breath.

It sounds like my friend is very sensitive to the spirits, but what would have caused one of them to do this to him, and what does it mean? He's really freaked out about this, and I want to help him all I can.

What happened to your friend could be a simple case of sleep paralysis, which is generally thought to not be paranormal in nature. I'm not 100% on that theory, but that is the general consensus on the subject. It does sound like a classic case of sleep paralysis.

It is awfully coincidental that it happened to your friend while in a house that is known to be haunted. I'd be curious to know if your boss has ever had a similar incident.

My boss has not had any of the experiences that my friend has had.

My boss did have some people from Berkeley in, I'm not sure if they were from UC Berkeley. Anyway, they suspect that the house wasn't haunted until my boss started shopping at estate sales, and that the ghosts are connected to the furnishings.

But would that explain the vortexes in the kitchen and the living room?

Carrie, thank you for mentioning sleep paralysis. I checked it out and it sure does sound like something called HAG PHENOMENA. It fits perfectly. I am so pleased, because I sure would hate to think that Pearl and the other spirit (I don't know if he has a name) had started being mean.

It does sound like sleep paralysis to me too. I tend to be prone to it when I'm under stress, it is extremely frightening. I don't really think that it's related to paranormal activity, though if that's what it was it could be that all the activity caused enough stress for your friends little sleep burp. I'm not really up on vortice's but if the spirit's seem to be only mischievous then perhaps the upset in their routine, such as your friend house sitting, caused them to be a little confused and have more energy than they normally would have. It does seem that changes in the household tends to cause increased activity. I hope that things settled back down again after the daily routine went back to normal.

I agree, it sounds like sleep paralysis to me as well. Renee makes a good point, that sometimes pn activity will increase when there has been a change in routine. You also hear of ppl noting increased activity or even first experiences with odd occurrences when they decide to remodel a room or portion of their home. It is odd though that your boss hasn't experienced any of the things your friend did while he stayed there. It's possible your friend may be sensitive or perhaps he was more alert, knowing he may experience something unusual. It may be things have happened with your boss as well but he simply didn't take notice of it? If something subtle occurred he may have passed it off as nothing. Or he may have found an explanation for something experienced eg: lights going off and on was due to a lose connection. Does your Boss believe the place is haunted? Did odd things only start happening after he brought home the items from the estate sale or was there activity before as well?

Sorry for all these questions, interested in knowing more though. =) How was it discovered that there are two spirits there and one is named Pearl and the other energy is male? What has occurred to make you believe there is a vortex in those two rooms? Do you know any history about the home, previous occupants, how old it is, what was on the land prior to the home being there etc by chance? Has anyone taken any photos or tried to capture an EVP (provided your boss wld be ok with that)? Let us know if anything further happens. Thanks in advance for any additional info you can give. =)

I can tell you what we know of the history of the house.

This house had been boarded up for 30 years. When my boss saw it, he thought he would like to buy it and fix it up, so he broke in, inspected it, took some pictures, and then set about researching and contacting whoever owned it. The house wasn't for sale, but he finally convinced the son of the previous owner to sell it.

The house was a mess. The previous owners wife had been sick and was bed-bound, and stayed in one room. The husband stayed in the other bedroom, basically lived on beer and frozen foods and pizza. When the wife died, the husband moved out, leaving the house as-is.

When my boss opened up the house, it was full of trash all over the place. Literally, a foot deep everywhere. He had to tear it up and rebuld and remodel.

After his remodel, he furnished the house by going to estate sales. He now has a lovely home, filled with old comfortable furniture.

I'm not sure when the ghosts showed up. We know there are two of them, because they have been seen. Pearl got her name because my boss liked that name for her. She is the one most often seen.

I believe that the vortex (vortii? LOL) were detected by the people from Berkeley. What IS a vortex, anyway?

What is an EVP?

My boss travels out of the country all the time, every 3 months or so, so people house sitting for him is not unusual at all. Sometimes its a friend from LA, sometimes it's a neighbors mom who is up for a visit. I suspect my friend was just more sensitive. Or maybe they knew he would be fun to play with. He was absolutely ok until the experience with the sleep paralysis. Now even though I've sent him articles on this, he is still scared of setting foot in the house again, which is too bad. I think the spirits liked him!

My boss does smudge all the time, I'll have to see if he does it correctly.

When there is a lot of activity the poor little beagle will simply refuse to go into certain rooms.

Thanks for any additional replies!

Thanks for the info Globug. Sounds like your boss undertook a huge project. I can only imagine what the house looked like after it sat unused for 30yrs, and not to mention it was neglected for some time during occupancy prior to being boarded up. I can also imagine how beautiful it must be now, with all that he has done to it. Do you know if the wife died in the house and if the husband is still alive?

In addition to the history of the house (it's former occupants) and the land it sits on, the items obtained from estate sales may be worth looking into further. Provided activity or an increase in activity was noted prior to the items being purchased.

Can you tell us more about what has been seen in the home. Who has seen the ghosts, what did they see exactly, how often have they been seen? I'm not only interested in knowing more about what has been experienced there, having seen an apparition myself, I'm always curious if others experiences were similar or the same. =)

The ppl from Berkeley, who detected the vortex (or vortice), are they a paranormal investigation group? Does your boss happen to have a copy of the pic taken which shows the vortex in it? A vortex or vortice is believed by some researchers (and individuals) to be a porthole of sorts to the spirit realm.

EVP or Electronic Voice Phenomena: disembodied voices or sounds that have been recorded by using audio recording devices. A word or sometimes a phrase which has been imprinted on the tape or digital device can be heard upon play back which wasn't audible at the time the recording was being made. Though there have been times when the voice or sound was also heard by those present while recording. Most often these voices/sounds are faint and difficult to understand. Many will classify EVPs depending on how clear they are (that is if everyone who listens hears the same thing or if different ppl hear something different when they listen to it). EVPs have also been found on other devices such as phone msg machines. Though many will attempt to capture an EVP at suspected haunted locales they have been obtained at locations not known to be haunted. Like any other anomaly though, explainable causes need to be ruled out. A cpl examples with EVP, it may have been a radio frequency that was picked up, or caused by a living person (outside or in another room). Go to the pic/evp forum, a number of ppl have posted EVPs, including one left on a msg that Pate recieved from her dear friend. Also browse the pic threads as well to see examples of various anomalies captured. You will note by opinions given that some have been attributed to natural causes.

Has anyone outside of the Berkely grp, assuming they took pics, taken any photos at the time when activity was noted? If so would you be able to share some of those with us? If not and your boss is willing, take pics in various areas. Be sure to take at least two pics (one after another) that are of the same area, taken at the same angle and position. That way you have what's called a control shot to compare with should you note an anomaly in any pics taken. Some ppl have found that asking the ghost/spirit if you can take their picture first has helped.

Some feel smudging can help (if done correctly), while others are of the opinion it doesn't do anything. There are threads in this forum on smudging and house blessings etc. Is he wanting to get rid of whatever is there? Has he considered bringing in another reputable grp to do a full investigation? I would also suggest he and others keep a journal of sorts, documenting the activity noted, time, date etc as that info can be beneficial to provide any group that does an investigation. Good luck.

Thanks again for the info and in advance for once again answering my many questions. =)

Hi. I sat down with my boss and found out the history of the house.

The house was built in 1927. The original owner lived there until 1940.

In 1940 a couple moved in. The wife became sickly, and either died or took her own life to end her suffering. Her husband moved out, and sold the house.

In 1964 a man bought the house, lived in it for 6 months, and moved out suddenly, leaving all his belongings behind. This is the man who my boss bought the house from.

The house was boarded up for 30 years. When my boss first tried to buy the house, the owner refused to sell it to him, but my boss persisted. The old owner would not disclose anything about the house, but he did allude to "mysterious things."

It certainly sounds like there were spirits there before my boss bought the house!

Thanks for the history update on the house Globug (and thanks to your boss for sharing it with us). =)

How strange that fellow moved out suddenly like that, leaving all his belongings and then boarding the place up, for 30yrs no less. Do you know if he left everything or just a good portion of it behind? Suppose it's possible he only had room at his new place for some things, but then why not just sell or giveaway the rest or put it in storage. Actually why not sell the house, unless you have money to waste. Perhaps he didn't want another person/family to live there knowing something was odd about the place? Given what others have experienced there, it does sound like this man also experienced something and whatever it was it upset him enough to not only just leave, but to make him still reluctant to sell after 30yrs. I know that's just speculation, but it sure seems possible. Would love to know what happened during the 6 months he did live there. But I'm betting if it was indeed due to paranormal activity he would never tell, at least not to your boss given he bought the place.

Hate to be pest, but did you find out anything more about the Berkely group ie: if they are a paranormal investigating grp or researchers of some sort? What they did while they were there and why they believed there are vortices in the home? Did any photos takens have anomalies they couldn't explain and did they provide your boss with copies of same?

Sorry to ask this again as well but still curious if your boss or anyone else have taken pictures that have unexplainable anomalies in them that you would be able to share with us?

Also still curious if it was an actual apparition that ppl have seen and what it looked like ie; was it a solid form, a misty form or a partial form and was there enough detail to tell for certain it was a female or male? Not only are sightings of an apparition the most fascinating of pn experiences to me, but having witnessed one myself I'm always eager to hear if what others' experienced was similar or the same to what we did. =)

Thanks again for getting more info and sorry to keep asking so many questions. Please keep us updated should anything further happen.
