That's interesting Ian, seems someone may be trying to get your attention. I agree with Carrie remodeling can stir up activity. We have had tv's and our stereo turn themselves on, change volume and/or channels in past also (I posted about it before).
It's important to rule out common causes as at times one can be found. We had our electrical and the tv/stereo checked and all was fine, do you feel there could be something wrong with the tv or the plug? It happened a few times while we were in the room and could see the remotes sitting there on the table, so we knew it wasn't a case of sitting on it, or one of our cats stepping on it, or even someone playing a prank with it from another room. Do you have any pets, if so, could the remote have been sat or stepped on by chance? Are the homes in your area close together, could a neighbour using their remote (universal type) have caused the tv to go on? Not saying any of these things are the cause, just considering plausbile causes to rule out.
The water is curious especially since you and your wife were in the room each time it happened. I've only had a weird water thing happen once however I'm still not certain there wasn't a plausible cause for it. But won't highjack your thread with going into that.

It's odd that for you the water turned off and for your wife it turned on.

Also curious that it happened in two different rooms so it can't be a faulty tap. Plus you tried to recreate it and couldn't. You noted your wife feels this is not her Grandmother but you do. Was there activity in the home before her Grandmother passed away, and was it similar to this? You know even if there was activity prior to her passing it doesn't mean that Grandma hasn't come to visit. Given she was close to your son and the tv instances happened in his room, your wife felt the nudge after saying something negative about herself, and the water was turned off while you were using it (something a woman would do LOL), it may well be her? Maybe she wanted the tv left on for your son when he came home, and her turning the water on while your wife was in the shower was a sign to say ok time to get out of the shower. What was going on when she was in the shower, did she need to tend to one of the kids as soon as she got out or did the phone ring etc? I know it's a stretch but if there was something that needed her attention and if the water going on made her end her shower sooner, maybe that's the reason whoever did it, did so? Did Grandma have a thing about water, is there something about water that would make you think of her? I ask because I think at times the signs our loved ones give are things that they feel may make us think of them. Turning taps off and on is a way of drawing attention to water. In our home I'm always knocking on the doors telling the guys to get out of the shower already, I only do full loads of laundry and we seldom use the diswasher in the winter months (we're on a septic system) so I'm sure if I was on the otherside and odd things happened with water the guys would be thinking that's Mom.

When things have happened here before, at times, it made us think of a particular loved one so who knows maybe it was them, or maybe it was just our way of explaining something we couldn't find a cause for? I think listening to your heart and your instincts can also help.
As Carrie noted keeping track of things can help, we've noted patterns at time by doing so, plus if things increase and you decide to bring in a team to investigate one day that info will be helpful to have. Looking forward to seeing your photo. Keep your camera handy and the next time something happens or you feel something take lots of pics. Be sure to take at least two from the exact spot/distance/angle so you have a comparison shot. You may even want to ask if you can take their picture, I know a few ppl who investigate find that can help. Have you tried to obtain an evp? Good luck and please keep us posted. =)
