Hi Carrie,
I seen it on both shows and the owners actually seemed upset that Waverly wasn't more "definitely haunted." What I mean is they think, they have some unexplainable stuff but? Yeah, they want to make it a cash cow! LOL
And I don't remember, if they were even asked, how they came to own Waverly? Do you remember anything on that? My age is really playing with my memory anymore! LOL
In my opinion they are courting public opinion "come see for yourself?"
Got to tell you, I live down the road from the Mansfield Reformatory and they make a fortune during their open season. I can say though that the volunteers that run it are a non-profit and part goes to the upkeep of the old prison and alot to charities in the area.
I am sure there are tons of people who would travel there for the experience. Looked like the place needed alot of work though?
I know that they would have to bring it basically up to code to enterain the public, at least I think? My sons and I belonged to a non-profit when we lived in Michigan. We volunteered yearly at the Haunted House at Eloise in Wayne, Michigan. We had to work almost all year long just repairing, cleaning, inspectors, etc. just to open for 6 weeks around Halloween. Eloise was another sanitarium, TB in its time, then a hospital, its been about everything. Torn down now but a couple buildings are still there. A very heavy place. Good stories about it online, check it out!
Ok I am done rambling, sorry! Yep, think you hit the nail on the head......more books, movies? Although, do they own the story because they own the building? hhhhhhmmmmm? Like do they have rights to the name? Don't know?
Hugs,
Peggy
