How sad! What happened?? Did they get too hot? The ol' Arizona sun can bake a little plant in a hurry. I think their instructions about placing them in a "sunny window" is for the milder climates. You might want to try a North window, if you can?

Plant some more, and try again! If you need seeds, I have plenty of extras! [Wink]

Hugs,

Mare

*comes in and gives the poor lil things lots of TLC*

*uses a great big bag of "Miracle Gro" formula on them*

*sits up with them all night telling them cute lil sunflower stories...*

(Okay...maybe I'm getting a little carried away now... sorry... [Big Grin] )

*hopes Pandoras sunflowers have an amazing recovery soon... as he really loved this journal from the first day he arrived here... and would miss the cheery postings and images he's enjoyed seeing on this very sweet area!* =)

In the meantime, let's hope flower power prevails! =)

*rooting for the lil guys* - Moonlight. =)

Aw, I'm sorry Panders. [Sigh] Maybe they just have a cold or something? [Nerd]

I'll snap a photo soon. I have them in a north facing window but it doesn't ever get direct sunlight. I am afraid maybe they don't get enough sun. So this weekend I might put them outside in the early morning before it hits 100 here so they don't fry. [Laughing]

Oh, that's an idea! Just give them a little sun when you can, before it gets too hot. I hope things will improve! =)

Good idea, Pandora. =)

Sing to them for me, won't you? Er, maybe some soothing sunflower music would perk them up straight away. [Laughing] [Nutty]

Hi everyone,

I came to see the Sunflowers......are they doing better?
This heatwave took a toll on my flowers? The ones in pots I could drag around and such but my garden looks mutant.
Hope the Sunflowers feel better soon!

I set them in the morning sun for 20 minutes today. They wilted a bit from the heat, but perked up after being back in the cool house. I think the sun did some good. =)

It's too bad only one sprouted on the left. I planted 3 seeds per pot. But, the left one seems more stout than the 3 on the right. The directions say I should cull all but one at this point. What do you think? Should I pluck out two of the three? I cringe to think about it. I hate killing widdle helpless plans on purpose.

Pandora... you think just like I do. I hate having to cull seedlings... especially when you are removing more than will be left when you finish with that pot. But, they tell us to cull, and I guess it does give the single plant what it needs to grow as healthy and strong as possible. I would be tempted to gently remove the two, and re-plant them in their own pots, just to see what happens! =)

BTW, have you ever seen those plant growth lights? I found a site that I might get a lamp from before I plant my sunflowers. Some of the lamps even have timers to mimic the sun's rise and set. See what you think: BuyPlantLights.com[/URL] I would love to be able to have some better success with growing plants.... I seem to have a brown thumb. [Laughing]

August 9, 2006 - Before the cull! =(

 -
August 10, 2006 - After the cull. And we had a bad incident. When I reached in to cull the pot that had 3 plants, I bumped the pot with only one plant (don't know why the other 2 didn't ever sprout) it broke off! So I took one of the plants from the other pot and transplanted it over. I hope it works. So now we have one plant per pot. Send good thoughts for these poor little plants.

Oh, dear!!! The poor little plant on the left just wasn't strong enough to resist a little bump, but I hope that the transplant works out. I think it will! =) I'll send good thoughts to your little plants, and some white light, too! LOL
