We had a storm pass through last night and I was able to catch this on my digital camera.

Pandora, those are some amazing pictures! We have been having some crazy storms in my area lately with a lot of that type of lightening. It's as beautiful to me as it is frightening.

I have really enjoyed the "fireworks" every night so far this week. I have always loved thunder storms with plenty of lightning! Those are some really great pics, Pandora!

We had lightning all around us, and some of it was fairly close, as lightning strikes go. Have you ever used the old trick of counting the seconds between the lightning bolt and the next clap of thunder, and the number tells you how many miles away from you the lightning was? It is easy to do, even without a watch. When you see the lightning, start counting from 1001, 1002, 1003, etc. (The time it takes you to say "one thousand one",etc., takes about one second for each number, and is thus fairly accurate, even without a watch.) Let's say you get to one thousand six, you then know that the lightning strike was about 6 miles from you. It's kinda fun, if you are a storm watcher like I am. =)

Loved the pics!! =)

I have done that Mare! Honestly, I had first heard about counting the seconds between seeing the lightning and hearing the thunder from watching the movie Poltergiest. (Scared the [Pooper] out of me at the time) But I had always thought that that was a neat way to tell how far away the lightning strike was.

During our last trip up to NY we got caught in a thunder storm. The lighning strikes where literally in the field right next to where we where driving. Incredible! But I have to say, I was a little nervous with it being so close.

Great pic, Pandora! I love watching lightning -- at a distance. Yesterday we had 10 inches of rain dumped on us, so right now, I'm ready for some sun. I feel like I'm in a swamp.

Several years ago, I got a chance to see the elusive "ball lightning" and it was just incredible. I wish I'd had my camera ready, but I was so awestruck I don't think I'd have had presence of mind to take a pic of it anyway. Has anyone else ever seen it?

I've seen ball lightning before, when I was a kid. It was storming like crazy outside in the middle of the night. I woke up and looked out the window (love storms =) ). After a couple seconds, I saw this huge ball of light with tentacles just beyond our backyard fence, in the middle of the street -- it was about the size of a basketball! [Eek!] Awesome, indeed.

I then decided it best to go back to bed. [Laughing]
