Forums · Kinda Spooky

Well...the house that I live in is an old house...but I searched and it has no history that we know of...but something strange happened yesterday that makes me think...

My computer sits in the living room...right next to the computer desk is a china cabinet that we keep our pictures and keepsakes in...I collect fairies so I have alot of them...

Well, yesterday I was sitting on the computer playing an online game...I had the sound turned down so I could listen for the dog for when he wanted to come in the house...no noise in the house at all...I heard music playing...thinking it was my cell phone I got up and went to check it...but it wasn't ringing...so I came back to the computer and started playing my game again...well, I heard the music again...I happened to turn around and one of my fairy music boxes in the china cabinet was playing music...I know it was playing because when the music starts the fariy on top of it dances with the music...

At first I thought maybe the cat jumped up on the bottom case and jarred it...but I looked around and all the cats were in the backroom sleeping like babies...

Okay I thought I was dreaming so I went back to my computer game...and not even 10 minutes later it started doing it again...I wasn't really scared...just kinda spooked...because like I said the house has no history about it...

Well, to ease my mind knowing it wasn't just me...I went to the store and my husband came home from work...when I got back from the store he met me at the door with the strangest look on his face...he told me that he was getting ready to put a movie in and the music box started playing and he didn't touch it...then I told him what had happened to me...

Like I said we are not scared...just curious as to who might have been visiting us yesterday afternoon...

Has anyone else had something like this happen...if so I would love to hear about it!

Just today I woke up smelly cigarette smoke. Fresh smoke. I don't smoke. And just as I was reading this at work (during lunch) I smelled the smoke again. Here at work no one is allowed to smoke on company property. So I am literally 1/2 mile or more from the nearest cigarette smoke.

My psychic intuition is off. I've been working lots of OT and drinking lots of coffee (12 oz a day is a lot for me) so my mind is fuzzy. No impresssions of who or what this is yet.

No scary feelings for me either. I know its paranormal in nature. Just not who or why.

Hi everyone,

Actually, had about the same thing happen kiddo!
I have an old tin music box that plays the LOL "Godfather Theme" song. My Uncle and Aunt, who were also my Godparents, gave it to me when I first got married in '74.
It's been playing on and off for many years. It needs to be wound and then plays until its unwound. It plays by itself once in awhile.
I always take it as my Uncle and Aunt saying "hello" to me.
I wasn't the first person to hear it play by myself, it was my sister while she watched my sons when they were little. She made me move it to the back of the house? LOL Many others have heard as well.
I was like you, I thought it was broken or something..........but its fine.
Just wondering if your fairy was a gift from someone like my music box was?
Hugs,
Peggy

Actually no it was not a gift....I bought it myself at a boutique here in town...

Do you think that maybe the mechanism gets 'stuck' and then when it gets 'unstuck' it starts playing? I'm only saying this because even before I was born my parents had a 1950's style Christmas Bell. You basically hung up the bell, that had a pull string with a glitter ball on the end that you, well pulled! The music box would play 'Silent Night' and then would peter out when it was almost done. Well, without any warning, the bell will out of the blue, sometimes hours later 'unstick' and play the rest of the song where it left off the first time. My parents are both deceased now and the bell has gone to me. When the bell does this now the first couple of times really startled me and I it would be nice to think it was one of my parents pulling that string for me. But then I remember that the bell did this 40 years ago too! But who knows!! Just a thought.

I am not doubting something like that...but that is the first thing I did...I checked it to see if it might have been stuck or something...but it wasn't everything was intact..

Try relaxing and listening. Let yourself go into that semiconscious state of relaxing but not quite sleeping and see what comes to you.

Or try turning on a tape recorder when you here the music box kick on. Maybe you'll record something.

Another thing you might consider trying:

Ask, out loud:

Who are you?

Are you trying to tell us something? If so, please make it clear so that we can understand you....

Good idea Starlight...we might just try that...and when we do...I will be sure to let everyone know the outcome!

Katt, that is kind of spooky! My first thought would be that something was stuck as well. But it seems that with that being checked and not being the case, you may have a visitor trying to get your attention. Hmmm...I wonder who it could be though?

Is there anyone in your family that has passed that in life, would have been especially fond of the music box?

I don't know who it could be...My father passed away 5 years ago and I just recently got this music box and no other member of the family has passed...so it isn't part of my family...and no one in my husbands family has any connection with it either!

I have to wonder if the mechanism is a little sticky and every once in a while it "breaks loose" and runs for a bit. I've had music boxes do that. Did you open it up and play with it to see if it's sticking? Even if it doesn't seem to stick when you wind it up to play it, it might be a little sticky and it'll stop before the spring has fully unwound, and then it might, at some random time later on, start playing again (temperature changes often cause this).

If you open up the box so you can get to the mechanism, try to work it so the spring is fully unwound. Or give it a quick spritz of silicone spray or WD-40. Once you've fixed the stickiness, or confirmed that it's fully unwound, put it back together, and see if it still plays without winding it. If it does, it could be paranormal in nature.

Well, I know I posted this some time ago...but once again the music box started playing music without even being touched...the music box is in the living room in the china cabinet and I was the only one home...and I was in the bedroom laying down...and I heard music playing so I got up and walked out to the living room as to where I heard the music and sure enough it was spinning and playing music as if someone picked it up and turned it on...It is not really scary to me just kinda spooky because I don't know who or what it could be doing this...and why such a long period of time between the play times...just thought it was interesting and needed to share it!

I had the same thing happen to me when I was expecting my first child too. I had a little carousel music box that my sister had given me and it was in the baby's room on top of the dresser. This particular type of box had a little button on the bottom that had to be pressed in order to play, when it wasn't being pressed, it was off. So no mechanisms to get sticky, etc.....for a few months before and for a while after my son was born, the music box would begin to play apparently by itself. My dad had passed away 9 years before and I took it as a sign that he was stopping in to say hi to his new grandchild! Count yourself blessed that this could be a sign from your dad as well, welcoming his grandchild into the world!
Wishing you a quick and easy delivery!!!

Interesting lizziegirl...I didn't think of that...well maybe it might be him...if so I do truly feel blessed by his presence! I will keep you posted if anything else happens with the music box!

Did you ever try asking aloud if someone was there? And do you wind up the music box to listen to it at other times?

I'll add my best wishes for an easy, fast delivery. =)

I did...but no one answers...no I don't wind it up to listen to it...it just sits for looks!

I was thinking the same thing, because I had something similar happen to me like that when I was pregnant with my daughter... If, it's not threatening you or anything and you get good feelings from it then just go with it and relax...
