If (like me) you're a Dr. Who fan, then doubtless you'll have been overjoyed when a couple of years back, Dr. Who was resurrected from the grave - and brilliantly so! Gone are the cheap sets, the dodgy monsters, and the poor scripts and acting. It's well acted, superbly scripted, and great fun =) However...
...the fun it seems, doesn't end there! Whilst Who fans in the UK patiently wait for the Christmas special, and the next series sometime next year, we've been treated to something new... a spin-off series, this time based around one Captain Jack Harkness. If you remember a certain American male who fought alongside (and flirted with!) the Doctor in several episodes, then you'll certainly know who this is.
This time there's no Tardis, no Doctor. But what there is, is Torchwood. Torchwood (created by Queen Victoria, after the good Doctor paid her a visit) is an organisation created to investigate, protect against, and learn about alien life and technology, for the UK. Harkness heads up the Welsh section of Torchwood, and brings his own brand of chaos, to a pretty unorthodox bunch of people!
Who fans will love it... for one thing, this certainly ISN'T a family viewing series! With a sex addicted alien in Episode 2, not to mention an edgier, darker style to it than Who, I'm already hooked. When it crosses the water, if you're a fan of the new Who, I'd highly recommend giving it a try. It's got action, humour, drama, is well acted, and beats the heck out of "yet another generic crime drama".
Me? Well, I'm patiently awaiting episode 3... should be fun! =)
