How are you spending it?

I'll watch some "scary" videos and then a basketball game.

Not many trick or treaters here.

Typically, we don't have many trick or treaters either, but this year was an exception and I'm so pleased!

Earlier in the year, one of James' distant cousins passed away. She had been one of my favorite people in the community. I never saw Maxine without a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone, even when she was ill. Each year at Halloween, she had a tradition of making caramel apples to give to the kids. In a rural community, they still do this sort of thing.

Well, in honor of Maxine, I decided to become the "caramel apple lady" -- and it was a huge hit! I made two dozen and several kids were disappointed we had run out and they "only" got candy. Next year, I'll make more.

Each year, I have a rather elaborate witch costume that I wear to answer the door in. At first, I got some really weird looks from the ultra-conservative community. However, this year, I noticed several other parents joining in the fun and dressing up too, which made me feel really good.

Halloween is a great time to feel like a kid again! I have a lot of good memories of Halloween when I was a kid and I want to make sure my kid and others in my community do also!

Good for you Carrie. =) You have a wonderful spirit.

I watched this Scandinavian flick from the 1920s on the history of witches. Overall it was pretty good. It was sort of a cross between a history lesson and a critique on how people either manipulated other people or were manipulated into harming women by condemning them as witches. How people misunderstood the Earth religions.

And then I watched Dead Alive. One of Peter Jacksons early films. Very campy. Very bloody. Very funny. If you liked the Evil Dead series (by Sam Rami) you'd like Dead Alive.

And of course passed out candy at the door.
One little boy, after giving him a candy bar, reached into the bowl to grab another one, knocked one from the bowl onto the ground and grabbed that one too. Sheesh. I had to laugh at his gutsyness. I don't like to encourage impertenance but it was Halloween.

Watched the A&E documentary on haunted houses and then the Lifetime movie I taped the previous evening The House Next Store. Kinda creepy, but oooh do I like Laura Flynn Boyle.

In the past I had always gone to a Halloween dance, but none of that is done here; nope, no BOOroom dancing this time around. [Big Grin]

My husband and I where hoping to get a decent number of kids this year. Turns out we had two small groups of kids and that was it!!! [Eek!]

After sitting for about an hour after the second and last group of kids, we checked outside to see if anyone was stirring out there. Our whole street was dark! We live on a side street, so I can imagine anyone looking to come down our street and seeing all the lights out would re-think that decision. We usually keep our front porch light out because we have Halloween lights strung all along the porch and I put candles out to give a spooky affect. But not one of the our other neighbors had a light on. Oh well....

We also tried to stay up and watch the TAPS live investigation. My hubby made it until about 2:30...I started dozing off and on after 3:30. Was a great show though, and really great to see something like that live.

Carrie, the caramel apples sound delicous. It's wonderful that you are carrying on that tradition! Nakis, Dead Alive is hilarious!!! Gross, yes, but hilarious all the same.
