Has anyone caught this new series? James and I were flipping channels a few weeks ago and found it on VH1. The premise is getting some B-list celebrities in a haunted location and having them do an investigation. We thought it was pretty light and frothy and kinda fun watching some overpaid undertalented celebrity types whining about being scared. The first show we watched pretty much lived up to those expectations and we decided to tape the show the next time it came on.

Last night, we watched what would have been the pilot for the series. Evander Holifield, Julio Iglesias, Jr., Wee Man, a playboy bunny and comedienne Debra Wilson were the cast. I've always got a kick out of Debra Wilson (Mad TV) and thought it was interesting at the beginning of the show when she talked about her interest in the paranormal and how she had done a bit of paranormal investigation herself.

They had been taken to the site of a cult slaying in Southern California. In a nutshell, the leader of some far out cult in the late 1960's, decided he liked little girls, became obsessed with one and sacrificed the child. I'm sure VH1 added a lot of eerie atmosphere with graffitti on the walls of the buildings, etc...It definitely did not look like a wholesome atmosphere.

Anyway, the had them do EMF readings, etc...but what really made me sit up and take notice was Debra Wilson's reaction to some of the things that happened. I think the entire cast was legitimately spooked -- no one in the bunch was much of an actor, so I can't see them pretending.
At one point, Ms. Wilson claimed to be posessed by an entity and was fighting it taking control of her body. During that sequence, she looked at the camera and something about that look just made my blood run cold. I would swear to it that woman had something ahold of her, or she really believed she did.

Afterward, she commented that when that show was complete, she would never speak of her experience there again. The entire bunch decided not to complete the series of tasks that had been assigned to them and left the place. All refused to be interviewed after the show, which for a publicity hungry celeb, is pretty surprising.

Anyway, I don't know about the other episodes, but this one was pretty interesting.

We had a series like that here, though not with celebrities. The regulars (three in our case) would do this every week, and there appeared to be some legitimate hauntings. I would not be surprised if it was the same licensed concept, though altered to add some “celebrities”.
