Hi paranormal39,

What you are experiencing may or may not be a ghost. Always look for a non paranormal answer first. For instance, if anyone has been in a place where people were smoking, a bar, restaurant, or friend's home, the cigarette smoke will permeate clothing. The same holds true of furniture fabric. If you buy used furniture from a smoker, there is a good chance you might have the cigarette odor in the upholstery.

The same holds true of perfume. Just the other day, I just walked by a lady in the grocery store who undoubtedly had bathed in cologne. The scent stayed with me for quite some time after she passed by. Furniture and such that could have belonged to someone who liked a heavy dose of perfume every day could be the answer to the scent. Also, could someone in your home be in contact with a person who uses a lot of perfume? Sitting next to a co-worker all day who is strongly scented from head to toe may cause other people's clothing to carry their scent.

Also, are you in an apartment, or are there houses that are very near you? Odors tend to drift. Could it possibly be a highly fragrant or chain smoking neighbor?

The tv turning off could possibly be an electrical problem. Do you have any problems with light fixtures or other appliances in your home?

Could the dreams be a product of watching something similar on television? Sometimes even hearing just a snipet of something on the news can settle into your subconscious and come out in your dreams.

With all that said, what you've experienced could very well be paranormal. I've lived in houses where I could find no logical explanation for odors. I've stayed in a hotel that had the reputation for being very haunted, and had the tv turn on and off by itself. Most of us on this message board have experienced some form of eerie dream from time to time that makes us question what is going on.

I would suggest doing a little research into the history of your home, or the land where your home stands. Was something there before? If it is an older home, are there any deaths associated with it? As for the child in the dream, have there been any cases in the community of a child being the victim of such a crime? If so, search newspaper articles and such at your local library to see if there is a picture of the victim and she matches the description of the child you saw in your dream.

Take some photos around your home. See if you get any unexplained phenomenon in the photographs. Take a look at some of the expamples in our photo section to get an idea of what to look for. People in haunted places often have unexplained things show up in their photographs.

Good luck, and keep us updated!

Start out by talking to neighbors who have lived in the area for a long time. You may not want to come right out and say that you think the house is haunted, but try asking who built the house, the families who have lived in it , etc...Then, bring up the subject about their being any deaths associated with it. Once you have some family names, try looking some up in your local library to see if any significant events might be associated with them.

Some friends of mine had a home, built around the early 1900's. After they married and moved in, eerie things started to happen. The man kept catching glimpses of a pretty red-haired woman, and at times, he would mistakenly think it was his wife (also a pretty redhead). After he started talking to people who had lived in the area some time, he found out that during the 1950's, a woman meeting that description had been murdered by her husband in that home. Your neighbors are going to be the best source on anything like that.

Keep in mind also, that there may be no deaths associated with your home. Spirits are also attracted to places they enjoyed in life. A prior owner could very well have had an uneventful passing, but chose to hang around their old home (or even an object) that they were attached to.

Hope this helps!
