When I studied psychology I remember hearing that mental disease is often just an extreme form of natural behavior. It's not a mental disorder requiring treatment unless it seriously impacts your life and ability to function.

So, even if we're all hearing voices, as long as they're helpful and don't disrupt our lives, we're not in need of hospitalization.

Now, as to the tv reverends, they're ALL crazy!!!

I agree with Light Dancer. Many people who have mental issues live normal everyday lives.

A great example is the doctor from the movie A Beautiful Mind. It's an exemplary story but it shows what we can be and live like everyone else.
The protagonists was a brilliant economist. He suffered from acute schizophenia pretty much his whole life. Undiagnosed until later in life when it started to affect his life in serious ways. He learned to deal with it.

I've never met anyone who doesn't have problems or issues.

Though if you suspect mental or emotional problems and either you feel it affects your life or someone tells you that it does, it's a very good idea to seek professional help. We have a lot of excellent psychiatrists and counselors in our country that are extremely helpful.

There are plenty of people who have serious mental problems and they live productive lives. Just look at Washington D.C.. [Wink]

Yes, there are several people in the world who could do well with a visit to a psychiatrist or psychologist, but others who have some issues that are not causing problems with their lives, well, it is just up to them, if they choose to get help for their own peace of mind.

It is a crying shame that mental health is still pretty much in the closet, and people are afraid to seek help for fear of being labeled "crazy" or worse. That is just not the way it should be. The brain is just another organ in our body, and it can have health problems, just like any other part of us. I have had psychiatric care myself for a few years, with much of my problems stemming from job stress. I am not ashamed to say that I suffer depression, and that I still take medication regularly for it. No one should ever be afraid to talk about their mental and emotional problems. Often, it helps just to talk to another fellow human about that which bothers us. We are all human, and we all are playing out our lives with the cards we were dealt. Some of us have more emotional hurts and worries than others. We just have to do our best, and cherish friends who care enough to at least try to understand what we are faced with. Each of us has their own personal reality, and we have to focus on our similarities, and not our differences with others.

Yes, I agree with all of you, especially about Washington DC being beyond help!!! LOL They have done more damage to America than we will be able to fix in the next century. Looking at what comes out of DC, it makes you wonder if they even live in the same country with the rest of us!

Hugs to all... and hang on, life is quite a ride!!!! [Big Grin]

I my self find the voice's most interesting. simply trying to determine if there is more to it than first appears. 1. several years ago. the voice said. ye' shall be baptised' and become a healer of men. tell them you are' not he. 2. next morning it return's and say's who shall you serve man or me? bible version. king james. is mamon. a year or so later recieved a cross & chain.it layed around for quite a while, then the voice return's & say's. wear your cross. you bet cha!. the baptism did occur about a year later. then the run in with the demon it almost completely knocked me out until the voice returned and said fight it! they have not become a problem but most interesting to be able to do a self evaluation. it would be considered silly but interesting.
